Re: The States: Mad Scientist Laboratories of Democracy

See, I don't get why the Kochs want to spend money on AP HIstory teachers and school boards.

That doesn't fit their MO. Are they really trying to muddy their financials and their social side? Seems expensive.

If you want to understand the Kochs just pick up an issue of their mouthpiece, Reason. They are pretty complicated. It's 50% traditional libertarianism with a strong dose of 50's cartoon American exceptionalism (hence the Orwellian historical revisionism), all slathered in the butter of protecting their specific crony capitalist interests. It's highly entertaining because all those things contradict each other. It's as if Lew Rockwell married Greg Penner.

Yes, yes, yes, and yes. Beautifully constructed. Well done.

The massive derp fueled backlash against Alaska's Governor for NOT buying into this "no more refugees!" crap is ridiculous.

I wonder how many of the Govs said to themselves, "this is pure nonsense and I can't Constitutionally do anything anyway, so I might as well throw the red meat to the herpa-derps."

I'm annoyed at BranStache. His morning comments were acceptable waffling that pandered to the right while being noncommittal and signaling to everyone else that business would continue as normal. By the afternoon he'd gone full derp.

Given how all these governors got in line that quickly, I wonder which big donor is pulling the strings.

Nobody is pulling the strings. All fifty governors are scared s h ! t l e s s of their own voters, not the Syrians.

Read these position statements from the governors of each state. http://www.newsweek.com/where-every-state-stands-accepting-or-refusing-syrian-refugees-395050

The Republican governors, for the most part, have just come right out and said, "we don't want them." It's the response of the Democrats that is much more entertaining. "There is nothing, literally nothing in this entire world that I am more concerned about than the safety of the people of our great state. And, well, I feel bad for these women and children coming out of Syria, and someone should do something for them, and I love and support our great President, and, well, after full vetting, including body cavity searches of each and every one of these people, we might be willing to see our way forward to think about talking with the President about where these people should go, I do support our President in every regard." Blah, blah, blah, blah.

Now that is some impressive leadership.

Agreed. The GOP pols don't have to pause to think (no jokes). They lead a party that essentially has the slogan "Make America White Christian Again." They've been giving everybody other than that demo the middle finger for 30 years -- this isn't even an effort, it's an instinct.

But the Dem pols who are taking the easy way out are a disgrace to the regiment, just like when they fell all over themselves to polish Bush's knob after 9/11. Thus internal polling does make cowards of us all.

Fear is the mind killer...

Diaper Dave's at it again.

If you haven't been following the hysterical Governor's race in LA, Mr. Republican Family Values first tried to talk about his opponent going to a "strip club" instead of appearing at some FRC lynch mob run by Vitter supporters. When that had exactly the result you think it would by reminding everybody of the patriot's Pampers fetish, he's switched to trying to demonize the scurry scurry Syrian refugees.

I assumed Vitter would win this race, but it's looking more and more like he's somehow managed to blow it.

Vitter loses to John Bel Edwards.

Re: The States: Mad Scientist Laboratories of Democracy

Gotta call out Scooby "Cokie Roberts" Doo on this one. When the Goopers won in Kentucky he/she was all "GOP WINNING EVERYWHERE!!! ON WAY TO 50 STATE WIN IN 2016!!!!"

So, now that the Dems won in freakin' Louisiana, I guess its Dems win everywhere, right? Why do I hear the sound of crickets (this goes for the lamestream media as well).

The way I see it, this off year election GOP won where they were supposed to (KY,MS), Dems won where they were supposed to (PA Supreme Court, NJ legislature), parties broke even in swing state (VA legislature - no change) and Dems won/Goopers lost where they weren't supposed to (LA).
