Re: The States. It's 10th Amendment or bust!

12 in mass.. that explains a lot for rover!

It was kind of surprising how many states either had no statutory minimum age or the minimum age was in that 14 year old range.

I also thought New Hampshire's was interesting. 13 for girls, 14 for boys, but if it's a same sex marriage it's 18 for each. That can't withstand a court challenge can it?

It speaks to the pure laziness of the State and Federal Legislatures.

Re: The States. It's 10th Amendment or bust!

No, but generally what happens is if the States can't get it right then the Feds have to step in. And it looks to me like the States haven't gotten it right.

maybe they have :p

after all, isn't a 13yo - 14yo marriage a 'made for after school special' kinda thing?

Re: The States. It's 10th Amendment or bust!

No age “floor” set by statute. If the statutory exceptions are met, a child of any age could be married.

I'm not sure what's more cringe-worthy:
- those words
- how many states have those words.

Re: The States. It's 10th Amendment or bust!

Not a word in Wisconsin Statutes about goats, which seems little inflexible.

and

He'll get along swimmingly with Pence based on the latter.

Saw a funny comment, which was if you're man in your 30's, and you need permission from a girl's mother to date her....date someone else!

Seems pretty obvious to me... They're into deer.

Speaking of sex and legislatures. Another Minnesota state rep was accused of sexual harassment. This time from the GOP. The guy is a real piece of work. He wears a semiautomatic rifle lapel pin, a handcuffs lapel pin, and I've seen a few other eye roll inducing pins.

Be sure to read through the stories on this guy that are linked in the paragraph:
In that post, Cornish had been perhaps the single most powerful voice in the Capitol on issues of gun control (he is, uh, against it), crime (privatize prison!), and police reform, where he has thoughtfully advised citizens not to "be a thug."

Re: The States. It's 10th Amendment or bust!

So the GOP in Alabama are sticking with their boy. I don't think we have any fundies on here but I would dearly like to ask the questions- if you are supposed to trust in God why must you embrace a pervert to get the Supreme Court? Shouldn't God take care of that? How does one reconcile what the Guv'nor said- I believe the women but we need Moore to get the Supreme Court? Wow. Just wow.

The ends justify the means. Make the deal with the devil because your ultimate goal is righteous. It is why Fundies are in bed with Trump.

We used to have a couple of thumpers, but they were snowflakes who couldn't take the heat when called out on their BS, or in one case got all poutragey and whined that a joke about his admiration for his state's governor was somehow an ad-hom attack on his wife . So the political threads here are now basically a liberal chorale, broken only by the occasional InfoWars ravings of FlagDUDE.
