The States. It's 10th Amendment or bust!

Re: The States. It's 10th Amendment or bust!

Minneapolis Mayor - Run off required. Incumbent Hodges came in third...not too surprising. Not that she was bad, but just not that exciting either. Odd thing is that Frey came out first in votes.

Frey is a new comer to the city, not much experience...but he's a good lookin guy I suppose. Not my choice.

Hoch had a loaded resume and was a more thorough candidate. Problem was he gave to the GOP...but not to a political fund and a tiny fraction of what he's given to the Dems. But has the experience to drive positive development.
I think Frey may have been endorsed by the StarTrib, which probably helped him.

Re: The States. It's 10th Amendment or bust!

Yep. You need to restock the farm system.

All parties do, all the time; it's part of the fluid dynamics of the American party system. The GOP has a highly efficient and disciplined feeder system using the churches. Black liberals do, too. White liberals have yet to figure out an alternative system. What we need is the equivalent of the 18th century French political clubs: Jacobins, Feuillants, Cordeliers.

The alienation and anomie of educated, secular liberals is one of the tragedies of modernity. It isolates us and exacerbates the social awkwardness of the bookish, thoughtful liberal personality. We need practice in public speaking, connection with community, and comfort in talking with people who aren't like us. It's a paradox: conservatives denigrate soft skills but have them; liberals extol them but lack them.

LOL Gillespie changed his birthday on Twitter to 11/7 so if you went to his profile yesterday you'd see balloons. (Apparently that is a thing Twitter does.) And then he lost.

Re: The States. It's 10th Amendment or bust!

Out of state money ran the Yes campaign. Not surprising it passed. Question remains is how will it get paid for?

The people from out of state don't care, its not their problem and they won't have to pay for it. This will wind up being a massive disaster for the state.

I normally reserve this comment for our fear stroking republicans, but God **** it must suck to go through life as pessimistic as you.
Kinda curious what Scooby's main political show is. Is there some kind of infowars for democrats that I don't know about?

Maybe he watches the Tim Black show :D

I'm not directly impacted by who is elected to be the mayor of Minneapolis, but I was hoping to see Hoch pull it off.

Re: The States. It's 10th Amendment or bust!

I'm sure they will. And 2018 is looking good. The best thing about last night is the Democrats made inroads in the areas that they have failed the most. City and State government.

Where is Scooby and how did you obtain his login PW?

[edit] Oh, there he is:

Whoop Dee Doo. Glad you're so confident. Hopefully we're not in a Nuclear War before 2020.

Interesting. He wasn't in my top 3. I've got a few friends who work in politics for a living and none of them liked him either. They all ageeed on Dehn as top choice

Re: The States. It's 10th Amendment or bust!

Frey elected MPLS mayor. Counted the second and third place choices for five rounds.

*shrug* Probably because I'm so detached from Minneapolis politics. I don't know much about Hoch but everything I've read and heard I liked. No insider knowledge though :)

Same. I did a little research since I live there, but am fine with several of the candidates had they won

Lepage has already said he will veto it.

Re: The States. It's 10th Amendment or bust!

Was he elected King?
He thinks he is,he has vetoed 5 medicaid expansions already. The legislature has to fund it, so that's where it will get interesting.
