The States 2: States Rights for Me But Not for Thee

Today, I learned about MN Secretary of State candidate Tad Jude.

And apparently, Tad's biggest concern is restoring the old MN state flag. Something that the SOS has no legal authority to do.
 
Our "Revolution" was a sideshow after the Seven Years War which gave Britain India.

They didn't give a shit about losing us. We returned less income than a single sugar plantation island.

Pride. The English are very big on that. Just look at the Falklands War. (My sister happened to be in England when that started. And she said the prevailing attitude amongst the Brits was they had to take them back for pride.)
 
For not giving a shit about losing us they tried awfully hard to keep us.
They didn't, though. It wasn't much of a force and there was a significant counter-effort in Parliament we weren't even worth that.

We look at all this with parochial hindsight. At the time we were not a particularly useful holding. As long as they kept getting their Carolina pine and tar for their navy, the rest of us were on roughly the same expropriation level as the Sudan.

Now add that we refused to pay our share of the taxes that had paid for the frontier wars that made the place safe in the first place, and...
