The Six Degrees of Jack Parker

Re: The Six Degrees of Jack Parker

In honor of the late Amo Bessone, can anyone link him to Jack in 6 or less?

somebody can do better than this, I'm sure... there must be someone at MSU that played with someone at BU. I just pick the names I know and go from there. :)

Amo Bessone
coached Mark Mazzoleni at MSU (78-79)
who coached Ryan Maki at Harvard (03-04)
who plays with Colin Wilson in Milwaukee
who was coached by Jack.

Re: The Six Degrees of Jack Parker

Not for the faint of heart, but

who was in Just the Way You Are with Michael Ontkean (2)
who was coached by Charlie Holt (3)
who coached John Corriveau (4)
who was coached by Jack (5)

Since you've opened the door to movies:

Paul Newman aka Reg Dunlop
was in Slap Shot with Steve Carlson & Dave Hanson
who played for the Whalers with Larry Pleau and Ricky Ley (1976-77)
who played for the Whalers with Mike Hyndman (1972-73)
---[who played Cornell's Francois LaFleur in Love Story
who was coached by BU Jack Kelley (BU 1967-70 & Whalers)
whose son, David, wrote Mystery Alaska in which
Phil Esposito played Phil Esposito
who played with Dave Silk on the Rangers (1979-81)
who was coached by Jack Parker at BU (1976-79)

or

Paul Newman aka Reg Dunlop
was in Slap Shot with Steve Carlson & Dave Hanson
who played for the Whalers with Larry Pleau and Ricky Ley (1976-77)
who played for the Whalers with Mike Hyndman (1972-73)
who played Cornell's Francois LaFleur in Love Story
in which skating scenes (for Ryan O'Neal) were done by Bill Cleary
who was coached by Cooney Weiland at Harvard (1953-55, 1956-57)
who coached Ben Smith at Harvard (1965-67)
who was assistant coach to Jack Parker at BU (1984-86, 1989-90)

Since Weiland played for the Bruins in the 20s with Eddie Shore, this could have gone a bit further before reaching JP.

I wonder if it also could be done using the Ref who was in the precursor to Saved by the Bell.

With movie characters, I was already off the reservation and so went for the Hollywood Hattrick. ;) And, with a bit more time, I'd have included Bobby Hanson and "Miracle."

who played for the Whalers with Mike Hyndman (1972-73)

Better? ;)

Re: The Six Degrees of Jack Parker

Here's a 1914 newspaper story with the Princeton team players names. Unfortunately in those days, first names were not often used in newspaper sports writing...

Not that it has anything to do with this thread, but I thought that article was kind of interesting. I had no clue 1914 hockey teams put six skaters on the ice. When did the "point" and "cover point" positions start being called defensemen? When did hockey lose the "rover"?

Edit:

After a quick wikipedia search, looks like the pro league of the day dropped the rover position in 1910. Another tid-bit: no forward passes were allowed until after the 1930s, so early hockey was more like rugby. Weird.

John Corriveau has acquired more notoriety in the past 24 hours than he ever earned during his playing career 30 years ago.

Re: The Six Degrees of Jack Parker

So Michael Ontkean, Bobby Hanson and Paul Newman serve as entrees into cinema. How about politics? Red Kelly (Wings, Leafs during era of Original Six) was a member of the Canadian Parliament. Anyone else? Wasn't Ned Havern's (BC) dad (Bob) a state rep or senator in Mass? And he played at Harvard in the late '60's.

Ken Dryden is a MP in the Canadian Parliament. Bet there is a connection there, easily.

Try to keep it to NHL and NCAA only. I threw Kevin Bacon in just to link the two most awsome 6 degree people in the world!
