The Six Degrees of Jack Parker

Re: The Six Degrees of Jack Parker

Hobey Baker played against William H Clafin on Havard (1912)
William H Claflin later coached George Owen at Harvard (1923)
George Owen played with eddie shore on the boston bruins (1930s)

if you can use "played against" that makes a lot of them quicker. I'll have to check the official rulebook. :p

Re: The Six Degrees of Jack Parker

i might have made this hard on myself

jerry york
coached with ron rolston at BC (02-03)
who played for asst coach bruce horsch at michigan tech (87-88)
who played with jack o'callahan on the us olympic team (1980)
who played for jack parker (76-80)
FOUL!
Bruce Horsh never was on the "official" 1980 Olympic team. Just like Herb Brooks (anyone want to try him?) was never on the 1960 team.

Jerry York
Coached at Clarkson - Asst Coach was Bill O'Flaherty (1)
Coached at Clarkson - Asst Coach was Terry Meagher (2)
Who played for Jack (3)

And I don't play the drinking game, but I do visit the Oracle of Bacon when things are really boring.

Re: The Six Degrees of Jack Parker

I like it. i tried to come up with some older ones that would be a bit tougher, because it's hard to find teams with no BU connection in the past 20 years or so.

Henri Richard
played with Guy Lafleur in MTL
who played with James PAtrick on NYR
who played with Tony Amonte on NYR
who was coached by Jack.

Eddie Shore
played with Frank Brimsek in Boston (39-40) #1
who played with Doug Bentley in CHI (49-50) #2
Who played with Andy Bathgate on NYR (53-54) #3
Who played with Glen Sather in Vancouver (70-71) #4
Who coached Tom Poti on NYR (02-03) and Dan LaCouture #5
who were coached by Jack (is that more than 6? can we get a ruling?) #6
SUCCESS!!

How far back can we take Ricky Meagher?

BTW, Jerry York has a nice branch, but you can only use 3 as he has a Parker number of 3 to start with. And can we link Charlie Holt with Jack Parker?? Because then we start ANOTHER mass migration.

Re: The Six Degrees of Jack Parker

Brooks is far too easy. He coached a number of Jack's former charges on the '80 team (Eruzione, O'Callahan, Craig, Silk).
Try using only NCAA or NHL teams -- it still works, but takes a bit longer.

This does not count -

President George H. W. Bush
Has daughter Doro (1)
Who was married to Bill LeBlond (2) <- another BC/BU matchup that did not go as planned.
Who played for Jack (3)

Charlie Holt
coached Peter Douris at UNH
who played with Joe Sacco in Anaheim
who was coached by Jack.

Herb Brooks coached Dave Silk with the Rangers, who played for Jack. ;)

Maybe, but unless you find somebody who transferred from UNH -> BU, the lowest Parker number you can get is 3.

you try looking around for the 1910 princeton roster.

if i need this thread was going to get so hostile i would have tried to hijack it like everyone else did in the beginning!

I did!! I got nothin. can't even find the name of ONE teammate. I'm impressed you even found someone who played against him. :)

edit: ok, I just found 3 teammates, but they lead nowhere. https://admin.xosn.com/fls/10600/pdf/MIH_Record_Book_09.pdf - Wendel S. Kuhn, Clarence Peacock, and Alfred Kay.

judging by this, I think it may be impossible. Earliest Princeton hockey Olympian was 1926. They only list letterwinners starting in 1930.

John Corriveau should fill the missing link.
Played two years for Charlie Holt, then two for Jack, including the 1978 national championship team--so he was an O'Callahan, Craig and Silk teammate, if you want to make a detour to the Olympic team.

Jen rules.
Skill, dexterity, style. Can you hear my applause from Colorado?
Is there anything you can't do?  :D

Re: The Six Degrees of Jack Parker

I switched to non-Canadiens..

Syl Apps (the first one)
played with Sid Smith on the Leafs (47-48)
played with Bobby Baun on the Leafs (57-58)
who played with Darryl Sittler on the Leafs (71-72)
who played with Dave Silk on the Wings (84-85)
who was coached by Jack.

I actually found a way to do it that included the second Syl Apps, but then it took 7 steps.

I'm not very busy at work today... :) This is a very educational exercise. I did not know Toe BLake's first name was Hector. No wonder he went by Toe. Why don't players have nicknames like that anymore? Dit, Happy, King, Toe, Dutch.
