The Showdown Behind the Mall - Cadets/Spartans Friday 2-11

Re: The Showdown Behind the Mall - Cadets/Spartans Friday 2-11

I was trying to be PC but of course I want and think you guys will beat them. CSC has to stay of the box to have any chance. I just don't see that happening.

Unfortunately the first time around, the problem was that NU went 0-3 on the PK, and 0-5 on PP. The GWG came on a PP in overtime when Norwich got called for too many men on the ice. I don't see that happening again.

How the hell does Hawk have $$ to buy tickets yet can't pay his debt to Charlie? He's no Norwich fan, that's for sure.

Re: The Showdown Behind the Mall - Cadets/Spartans Friday 2-11

Just curious but do you know if PuckVoice is going to do any interviews with the guy who does the Castleton games? I believe they run the Vermont Sports Network together.

Thanks for giving me an opening Hawk ... Shameless Plug Time!

Hawk ... "the guy who does the Castleton games" is Jack Healey ... 19 time Vermont Sportscaster of the Year (I've only won it nine times) ... we don't run it, but we work FOR NSN (the Northeast Sports Network), the company that among other things, streams video of both Norwich and Castleton games.

We work together EVERY morning Monday through Friday from 9-11AM on THE REALLY BIG SPORTS SHOW on NSNradio.net ... Every Wednesday he has Castleton Coach Alex Todd on the show, and every Thursday morning I try to have Coach McShane on ... we talk about Norwich, Castleton UVM, and all the Vermont sports ... as well all the national sports.

Shameless Plug ... Check us out Weekday mornings at nine on NSNradio.net ...

End of Shameless Plug ... Now back to your regular thread!

I think Hawk ought to register his bone marrow.

Never been to Rutland, but I am real curious about those sheap motels. :D

Been to Rutland, never ask questions you really don't want to know the answer to!

glad you brought that up, I was wondering the same thing about those "sheap Motels". The way my luck has been running he will be a match.:D:D

I talked to Jack Healey at a couple of Castleton games and he is very friendly and easy to talk too. He certainly has a distinctive voice but I am still suprised he has won so many awards. Does his radio station broadcast the game in the rink like WVED does with 97.5 fm. Regardless of who wins you got be proud two ECAC E teams are rated in the top 5 of the country, especially with the NESCAC leaving next year. Says a lot for the quality of the league and future recruiting.

Rutland is different from Chittenden County and Montpelier but still is a great working class community.

How about considering Castleton for the primelink tournament in the future. Castleton, Norwich, Middlebury, and Plattsburgh competition wise is about as good as it gets. Castleton rink only hold about a 1,000 but is still a good facility.

Re: The Showdown Behind the Mall - Cadets/Spartans Friday 2-11

Spartan Arena can max out around 1400 and with the new addition maybe it could hold even more now. we will find out on Friday i bet. haha

Re: The Showdown Behind the Mall - Cadets/Spartans Friday 2-11

In regards to the Spartans in the Prime Link, I am not sure who makes that decision but if they want to maximize that event, Castleton HAS to be in it, you can fly in all the MN teams that you want or invite Elmira, Hobart etc..... if will not get the attention that a weekend where Midd, Castleton, Norwich, and Platt all are at the same place playing. It used to be Potsdam but they got the boot because they are not good and no one seemed to care about them. I know that all of Vermont wants to see Midd vs Norwich, Norwich vs Castleton, and Castleton vs Midd. If the only negative aspect of that is that Norwich and Castleton may play 3 times???? I do not think anyone locally will complain.

As for Castleton I know that Platt has chosen to play them next year in both their tournament and a NC game. Norwich agreed to do an NC this year, so I know that Coach Todd wants all those teams as much as he can get them. It looks like McShane and Emery want to too. So...........Beaney what is the issue? I was told that Midd will no longer play Castleton no matter what now that the interlock is over???? What is the deal with that, I have an old car that cannot get me very far I want to see this game every year and I think Midd is running and hiding from it. At least Platty and Norwich stand up and take on anyone and everyone.

I am loosing a lot of respect for the NESCAC and Midd.

Bring the Prime Link to Rutland every 4 years and I guarantee a success.

Re: The Showdown Behind the Mall - Cadets/Spartans Friday 2-11

Castleton has 1 good year, and suddenly it's "make them the 4th permanent Primelink participant". What?

Castleton's all-time record against the Primelink teams? 4-10. The combined score of all those games? 25 goals for, 79 against. How many of those 10 losses were by a single goal? 2 of them. When was the last time Castleton beat a Primelink opponent by a multi-goal margin? Never.

Yes, Castleton is have a great season. Nobody is taking them lightly this year. Nobody. And they have shown that on a good year they can compete with Norwich and Middlebury (although they've never managed to keep it close against Plattsburgh). But they are far too inconsistent to ever consider making them a permanent 4th team. We are, after all, only a year removed from them going 9-12-5, and 0-3 against Primelink opponents by a combined score of 6-21. Talk to me after a few years of consistency, and we might have something to talk about.

Do you think the fact that they have 14 freshman and 7 sophmores (one of whom is the leading scorer in the country) will give them a little of the consistency you're looking for? Also, this definitely isn't their first competative season, the records go back farther than one season, do your research. Open up to the possibility that there are other hockey teams out there worth talking about besides the usual suspects. Doesn't anyone ever want to root for the underdog? Sometimes the negativity on here just kills me...

Re: The Showdown Behind the Mall - Cadets/Spartans Friday 2-11

Let me take another spin on having an Eastern team in the Primelink --

With the death of the interlock, the ECAC-E will play 4 conference games that do not count towards the selection criteria. Why play, or have the possibility of playing, another non counter?

Well, remember, those two schools have one more year to get D-III classified or they are out.

Re: The Showdown Behind the Mall - Cadets/Spartans Friday 2-11

I'd love to see Castleton on board but 1400 seats is a concern...maybe if they could make the rink a tad bigger....and I understand we had Potsdam, but Rutland is a lot closer to the other three the Potsdam was...the west hasn't really done much at the Primelinl and I think it would be a great idea. Just don't go asking questions, certain coaches get mad at you for suggesting stuff like this...

Re: The Showdown Behind the Mall - Cadets/Spartans Friday 2-11

Great restaurants, sheap motels and the Back Home Again Cafe church hostel where a young guy can do work for stay to save $$.QUOTE]

It is pretty bad that Hawk misspelled Travis Janke's name, but what is even worse is that he misspelled "sheep". Jeez!

I root for the underdog all the time....Middlebury will never go for having CSC in the Primelink and it's not cause they think CSC isn't good enough....

Since you are an insider do you know if St. A's or St. Mike's have made a move to go D3 in hockey. If not it will be an interesting 2 years to see if the ECAC E recruits any schools like Curry or Wentworth to replace them.

Re: The Showdown Behind the Mall - Cadets/Spartans Friday 2-11

Once Potsdam left the Primelink, it allowed the base three teams to re-examine the tournament. I believe their group decision was that they would NOT bring in another team from their conferences to be the 4th team. Not only that, but they can maximize the crowds at the 3 sites and have it at home every 3, not 4, years. Primelink probably doesn't cover the ENTIRE cost of the tournament, ticket sales mst likely pick up some of the costs.
Personally, I think it was a good decision.

No word yet. I don't think we'll hear anything about it until next season.
