The PPACA Thread Part VI: Tax Cuts Are More Important Than Your Health Care!

Re: The PPACA Thread Part VI: Tax Cuts Are More Important Than Your Health Care!

Probably the Koch brothers who have donated to the Mercatus Center.

Probably the Koch brothers who have donated to the Mercatus Center.

The opening line of their mission statement is:

The Mercatus Center at George Mason University is the world's premier university source for market-oriented ideas

So, duh.

Some of their other, ahem, "analysis" is pimping for deregulation.

They're an ideology shop appended to a university for cover, like Hoover.

The Kochs gave it $30 million.

The Mercatus Center was founded by Rich Fink as the Center for the Study of Market Processes at Rutgers University. After the Koch family gave more than $30 million to George Mason University,[4] the Center moved there in the mid-1980s. It took its current name in 1999.[4]

The Mercatus Center is a 501(c)3 non-profit and does not receive support from George Mason University or any federal, state or local governments. It is entirely funded through donations, including corporate donations from Koch Industries[7][5] (it received over $9 million from 1985 to 2014 from the Charles G. Koch Charitable Foundation according to the Conservative Transparency project)[8][6] and at least $330,000 from ExxonMobil from 1998 to 2016 according to the ExxonMobil annual "Worldwide Giving Reports".[9][better source needed] In 2011, 58% of its funding came from foundations, 40% from individuals, and 2% from businesses.[10]

tl; dr: It's a joke.

Shame this didn't work. I hope they get it fine-tuned before the megarich's tax cuts go through: http://www.koco.com/article/nurse-t...ving-seizure-at-oklahoma-county-jail/13130479

My best friend was doing a Behavioral Science internship at a Catholic mental hospital on Long Island in the 80s. One night he came over to my house and said "I need a drink." Then he told me a story about almost exactly like this: they had a schizophrenic patient and a couple of their staff were hyper-religious and were asking the doctors to recommend an exorcism. The doctors looked at them like they were crazy. So they went to the priests and the priests said "oh for f-ck's sake" (I mean, in a priestly way)) and then they shut up. They were both Central American, where Catholicism is basically Santeria with Plastic Jesus stuck on as a hood ornament to appease whitey.

As if premiums weren't going up a lot with our aging population before ACA...

That's not what whataboutism is, you of all people should know since you do it all the time.

Also like how your plan if you get a life threatening illness is to declare bankruptcy and have the taxpayer pay for your healthcare. So much for self sufficiency lmao.

Sure. And then if you have a budget busting illness or some sort declare bankruptcy. Good plan.

Life is a series of calculated risks.

How many times have you incurred $40k worth of medical expenses in a year?

For that number I'd say you're far better off with a major (catastrophic) medical policy and paying for the "normal" stuff out of pocket.

The best part is how the bankruptcy laws favor the rich and powerful and the corporations that are rich and powerful. Screw the little guy.

Then why require any kind of insurance? How many times has your house burned down? How many times have you been involved in a serious accident?
