Re: The PPACA Thread Part V: Doctor! Doctor! Give me the news!

Andy slavitt just tweeted this:

1- Anyone who believes the Trumpcare vote next week is nothing to worry about are completely wrong.

Because the Democrats are terrified of going against the 1%. They have to do much the same due to Citizens United. Bernie managed a grass roots effort, but where do you get 30 Senators and 100 Reps using grass roots?

Because they ARE the 1% as well.

Re: The PPACA Thread Part V: Doctor! Doctor! Give me the news!

John Barrasso now says the senate will just vote on the house bill this week.

All that hard work by the senate down the drain!

Re: The PPACA Thread Part V: Doctor! Doctor! Give me the news!

Vote coming tomorrow...McCain flying in you help it pass.

It must have chapped Charles Keatings butt that he went to prison and McCain not only skated but now that bribery is legal foe all intents and purposes.

Re: The PPACA Thread Part V: Doctor! Doctor! Give me the news!

Here's hoping McCain finds a spine, but I won't bet on it.

Ironically he'll be lauded for traveling so fast- traveling to take health care away from millions while he's getting treatment at mayo.

The only way his vote matters is if there are exactly 2 other R's against it.

If 0 then it's 51-48 and it passes either way.
If 1 then it's 50-49 and even if he votes against it Pence breaks the tie, so it passes either way.
If 2 then it's 49-50 and his is the deciding vote.
If 3 then it's 48-51 and it fails either way.

Dude's dying. Perhaps that will put things in perspective and he will do a Good Thing on the way out. Or perhaps decades of being a company man is too strong. Or perhaps these old farts sincerely do not understand how much pain and suffering they are going to cause.

It worked for Chaffetz...

Such a moderate mavericky thing to do...screw the poor while we all pay for your cancer treatments.

EDIT: I'm wrong about this. At 49-50 without him voting, it fails.

Therefore the only reason for him to fly back is to vote yes, so him flying is a surity that he's voting yes. We need Collins plus two others.

Session opens at noon, the motion to proceed could be any time after and it is not debatable.

Voting yes will prove he was never the moderate he pretended to be and the whole "Maverick" schtick was total crap. Of course the fact that he should have gone to jail for trying to cover up the S&L scandal so whatever. I hope he enjoys his taxpayer funded insurance while he robs 32 million of theirs. What a piece of scum.

If he votes no I'll give him credit, but right now it looks like he's a POS. And if so, I hope he gets called out for it quite loudly.
He'll go home and continue his expensive care while he cuts care for young children.

It would be awesome if he was coming so he could emphatically vote against it, because all the medical professionals who have been helping him convinced him. And that he felt it was worth making that trip in his condition to get that point across.

Well, to be honest, McCain never saw a crowd he didn't like.

That would go down as an epic political gesture and in some measure define his legacy.

"The man who became empathetic at the 11th hour and saved 20 million people's health care" is not a bad thing to have on your tombstone.

We all root for Scrooge to wake on Christmas Morning and get Tiny Tim his f-cking medical care.

You can. He's coming in to vote for the bill to come to the floor. What happens after that or whether or not he votes on the actual legislation we'll find out later.

It will depend on if Turtle Boy just wants a vote on the record so he can end the issue or not. Right now he's just having trouble getting a vote passed that will allow a vote on a Health Care Bill. Any Bill. The rules are weird that way. They have to vote just so they can vote. But, them's the rules.

Re: The PPACA Thread Part V: Doctor! Doctor! Give me the news!

Interesting. Read the whole thing, but the tl; dr is McConnell, Paul, Cruz and Cornyn seem to be on board with a complete end run where they pass an intentionally anodyne, non-implementable gimmick just to get to conference committee. The real decisions -- the ones that actually will force them to deal with the hard stuff -- will then be postponed until conference committee, so they can announce with fanfare that they've passed a Senate version even though they haven't actually accomplished anything.

They'll still have to face all the hard work they ought to have been doing now, but they'll have kicked the can down the road just a little farther, and they'll have cleared the docket so they can get to the Great Treasury Robbery of their tax cut.

It's not weird, it's the standard way a legislature works. You make a motion to proceed to bring the bill to the floor for a vote. It's loading the chamber before you can fire the gun, or moving to the line of scrimmage before snapping the ball.
