The PPACA Thread Part IV - Repeal & Replace, or Something...

Re: The PPACA Thread Part IV - Repeal & Replace, or Something...

Yes, you add the choice of "NO" to the equation. Sometimes by choice, more by not affording it.

That's the only choice this new plan adds.

Without the mandatory coverage many of the more expensive items will also disappear from all choices, either by overt collusion or just blind market mechanisms.

In 2016 the voters decided Romney's 12th vacation home is more important than Aunt Bea's hospitalization coverage. No matter how the GOP tries to elide it, that was the WILL OF THE PEOPLE.

Look in the mirror, Rust Belt Whitey.

Suckers.

At this point this is what I'd like to see.

1. Medicaid stay intact. Have financial means testing for it.
2. Medicare for all from age 50 and up. Supplemental insurance handled by insurance companies.
3. Federal Government takes over the High Risk pools and places them directly into Medicaid.
4. Rest of insurance stays intact.

Done.

Medicaid already has financial means testing. It's for poor people.

Yes, so straight repeal is their true option. More importantly they need to make sure to bend over every single GOP Governor who took the Medicaid expansion.

Re: The PPACA Thread Part IV - Repeal & Replace, or Something...

if you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice :)

I will choose the path that's clear.

Nate's roadmap of the GOP's CF.

I estimate that there are only about 80 congressional districts — out of 435 — where support for the bill exceeds opposition. About two-thirds of Republican members of the House, in fact, likely come from districts where the plurality of voters oppose the bill.

Ring, ring. Your constituency called. They said, "you suck!"

I understand that. The righties always get their underwear bunched up so I thought iterating it would be worthwhile.

Based on what I've read the best bet for the GOP to survive is straight repeal. That's what their voters want and that's what their representatives want. This abortion they came up with is not going to work.

That is what the voters wanted until they realized they were the ones getting prison raped. It wasnt a joke that a large percentage didnt know their health care was ObamaCare or that when Medicaid and Medicare get pimpslapped their coverage was included.

The problem with Trump and Ryan was they didnt realize that sooner or later people would figure it out.

Well, that's fine. But there is still a larger percentage of folks who still haven't figured it out versus those that have. And straight repeal does less damage then the current bill. So, it's a no brainer IMO.

Re: The PPACA Thread Part IV - Repeal & Replace, or Something...

Heart-warming:

After a day of ferrying between the Capitol and the White House, conservatives secured a commitment from House leaders to consider a proposal that would eliminate Obamacare’s “essential health benefits” — a set of regulations that requires insurers to cover a broad array of benefits. Conservatives have argued that these requirements drove up the cost of health insurance and restricted consumer choice.

Yet after House leaders signaled they were open to that measure, Freedom Caucus members pushed for even more: a repeal of all the Obamacare regulations, including protections for people with pre-existing conditions — a non-starter with most Republican lawmakers.

Ryan just felt what it was like for Obama trying to appease the orcs back in '08.

The only way out is through. You have to go to war against these Know Nothings. See them driven before you and hear the lamentations of their women. It's 1861; but Ryan is no Sherman.

Well yeah...it will lead to a massive Democratic Wave :D

I hope it's a wave either way. They really want this off their plate so they can do their tax bill (Massive Tax Cuts for the 1%). If Health Care bogs them down and Trump loses lustre they may lose their chance to get that done.

Ryan wouldnt go against the Know Nothings...because he agrees with them. He would rather get rid of all the provisions he just knows that will destroy his party in the midterms.

Sure, Ryan would prefer no health care bill at all -- live or die in Laissez-Fairyland. But he's a pragmatist or he'd never have taken that thankless job, and he needs a win badly. I think he actually thinks that if he deliver a win to Trump he'll be rewarded with loyalty. HA! But anyway all his political instincts tell him anything that he can call repealing Obamacare, including just whiting out the name in the Congressional Record and crayoning "Republicare" over it, is the only long game after what they put the country through.

Straight repeal throws fewer people off coverage than Trumpcare will.

Re: The PPACA Thread Part IV - Repeal & Replace, or Something...

By cutting all the required items from Obamacare they're screwing women and raising out of pocket costs for everyone. So, even though insurance goes down people's overall costs go up.

I'm still hoping for straight repeal. Best case scenario for everyone. Just take it away. And they have the votes for it. And if they don't have the votes now that they're in power it shines a bright light one them and their hypocrisy.

Re: The PPACA Thread Part IV - Repeal & Replace, or Something...

Oh man this is delicious. Freedumb Caucus revolts so they make it more conservative which makes it dead on arrival for anyone in a district with poor people. This is what happens when you leave morons in charge :D

I think it hurts old people even more than poor people. And who is the Republican's major constituency? And who turns out to vote in higher numbers by demographic group?

Isn't it something like someone in their early 60's making about $25,000/year will pay half their income for insurance?

I think it's more than half from what I've seen.

Old people should be OK until Ryan shivs Medicare.

This is William Graham Sumner rising from the dead to answer the question, "What do the social classes owe each other?":

"Nothing."
