Re: The Power of SCOTUS VIII redux: IX is being blocked by the Senate.

mookie always said the defining moment was went the broad stood up in the town hall and asked how each guys tax plan would help her. gore goes, "well, if you go back to school you'll get a $xxx credit" and crap like that. 40yo joe public ain't going back to no school. how stupid. dubya says, "well, if you make $35k you'll keep an extra $3k in your pocket" (or whatever it was). friggin' genius.

Not "genius", just good at appealing to basic human stupidity. "IT'S MY MONEY, AND I WANT IT NOW!!!!"

So what type of justices will Johnson / Weld appoint?

Yes, appealing to the stupids is pure genius.

when did priceless hack your account?!!?

Of course, if we're really examining the issue, both Gore and Bush were wrong. Gore was a bit closer, but still wrong.

So what type of justices will Johnson / Weld appoint?

I'd assume corporate cons and social moderates/libs. Not that it will matter, since Johnson's not getting elected.

Which implies that the SCOTUS does not have the protections of the First Amendment? No free speech? It's not as if she's telling people to have an uprising, just that she doesn't like Trump.

Geez.

Of the weak things, that's one of the ultimate weak sauce.

It's a bad precedent, though. Just because the right treats SCOTUS like a door mat doesn't mean we should too.

Personally I don't think it's a great idea to have Supreme Court justices out there commenting on things like this. I don't even think it's ideal for state court judges to do that.

They certainly have the same first amendment protections the rest of us do, so I'm not in favor of the government coming in and passing a law or something that says she can't comment on these issues.

But purely from the standpoint of trying to create the appearance of a neutral judiciary, I think it's bad.

Her statements certainly come close to violating, if not actually violating Canon 5 of the code of conducted expected for US federal judges.
