I thought Stebner was a defenseman, he is listed as a forward on the roster on tech's site. Just another Ian mistake or is he going to play forward?

I'm gonna say that's an Ian mistake. We have a ton of forwards to start the season.

And perhaps to add other hockey backers behind it, if another Michigan school adds D1 hockey, say like GVSU and Wayne, they would have to go to those schools every other year. You handicap the Sparties and Wolverines ability to schedule Non-conference games in the BTHC, and hopefully PSU will realize that they can fill up their arena with no-name schools more often than not. They're not going to fill many seats when they have Michigan, Minnesota, Michigan State and Wisconsin kicking their teeth in every weekend.

It's. Not. Up. To. The. Individual. Schools.

If the Big Ten says "form a conference" they will be forming a conference, and there's nothing, the Westerns, LSSU's, Northerns, etc. or the Minnesota or Michigan state legislatures can do about it.

I could see the WCHA picking up a couple of teams to replace Wisconsin and Minnesota. the CCHA is the screwed conference. three big ten teams gone. Miami, Northern will find homes easily. I agree. Though of course we really don't know and won't find out for a while. I think the CCHA is the league in more trouble not the WCHA. I don't think there are any members of the WCHA even St Cloud that are significantly easier travel to make a difference, or have enough national pull to make a difference. I see the Bimiji's and everyone else as pretty much the same.
I hope the WCHA decides to expand. I think that would be the best thing for college hockey in general. I think one of the key's is how fox decides to respond to the moves by the BTn.
Also even if the BB dl scenario played out, it doesn't end like Atlantic hockey IMHO, at least for Tech. I think there are a lot of possible scenario's that would turn out ok. Of course we will have to wait and see, but certainly all is not lost. Could it turn into the BIg Ten and the little everyone else, maybe, but I really don't think so.

What could throw a monkey wrench in this is the the guys running the WCHA tend to be, how do I say this kindly, well, arrogant, and have made enemy's in the rest of college hockey. If they insist on some sort of quid pro quo for these other teams to join, that might cause problems.
lastly, I am pretty pumped about this year's team, I think we will get a lot more wins. not first division, but a lot better. I'm really looking forward to the puck dropping.

The idea here isn't to get a school to say No to the BTHC, its to make it difficult for the Big Ten to tell those schools to become the BTCH. If you got those schools already saying "well, there's some elements at the state capital there they would try to cut their funding or just make life difficult for us in a BTHC", they can't because of one thing or another, the more attractive option to them would be more non-conference games between the Big Ten schools in a Big Ten Challenge deal. At least staving off a full fledged BTHC til say about 2025 would give everybody else a chance to get their affairs in order to still be a D1 Program.

The best thing that could possibly come of this would be to have OSU, PSU, Miami, Notre Dame, BGSU split off from the CCHA and make their own conference with UAH to spread out the big ten school and then drop conference games down and allow the big ten schools to all play each other every year. Then we'd get the exposure because every friday there would be a big ten hockey team playing someone on the bigten network. Hopefully some weeks those games would be against non big ten teams. Obviously this is a pipe dream but it would be the best for college hockey.

Plus, with the talk that the AHA is thinking about breaking up into 2 conferences to have 2 autobids, perhaps the Big Ten will see the added value of having its six teams split up between 3 autobid conferences when it comes down to NCAA time.

I have to completely agree with this. Even if the BTHC becomes reality, the WCHA only loses two teams and is still sitting with 10 teams. Tech certainly wouldn't be out the door because of travel reasons. Nearly every team the WCHA could add are farther East so travel is a non-issue. Tech would still be "bus distance" from The Sue, Bulldogs, Beavers, Mavericks, and The Other Huskies.

The CCHA drops two of its most talented teams (relatively speaking) and biggest cash cows. If anything the CCHA going down the tubes might push NMU back to the WCHA again along with UAF just for travel reasons. Split the 12 into two 6-packs with one Alaska school in each with an unwritten rule that no team must travel to both Alaska schools in the same season. And don't forget about Air Force. I'm sure they would love to hook up with DU and CC in a conference. That would cut their travel budget in half!

Oh well, the real fun will be to find these posts in 2015 and see just how far off we really were. There could be 100 D-I teams by then for all we know.

BTW - What's up with the new WCHA logo. I hope they got that as a freebee job from another project because that logo redo is worth about $7.95 tops from a design stand point. and the "campaign slogan"?!? What is the WCHA running for political office now?

You do realize that kids go to Air Force to know how to fly right, and that they like being in a league with Army. ;)

Monster beat me to it. The flyboys are happy with their current situation, playing Army at least twice a year, contending within their conference, and they still get to see CC and DU once a year. Travel is not a problem for them, and I really doubt they are interested in building a WCHA caliber arena. In short, Air Force isn't even on the table in such a scenario.

UAA and UAF in the same conference creates a scheduling headache, whether you have divisions and travel rules or not.

Yeah, Air Force probably looks at all the flying their hockey team does an easy way of letting the ones that will be flying multi-million planes around as a chance to get them a little extra flight hours.
