The Canadian women are nasty little buggers. Way to much extra curricular stuff for a game they are winning by this much. Not impressed.

So my classmate from HS crashed during his heat and finished fourth.

It's like every World Cup run and competition he's been in. Qualifies well, sh**s the bed where it counts.

Even in the race he finished third in to qualify for the Olympics, he fell at the bottom of the hill handing second place on a silver platter to an opponent.

The strong arm in the corner was a nice move too. No class at all.

It's a shame, indeed. What's also a shame was that the Miracle was taped delayed down here, while those of us in Canada (and Americans close to the border) watched it live.

Question -- how many guys from the 72 team made it to the NHL? Off the top, I recognized Boucher, Ftorek, Sheehey and Howe.

McElmury did.

Agreed! I signed out of my hotmail account and the results were posted in large font at the top of MSN.

People still use hotmail?

Also...I'm getting really annoyed at the minute long explanations of things like "shots on goal," "offsides," and "tripping."

I can understand pointing out the differences between men's and women's hockey rules, but do they really have to act like no one watching this game knows the basic rules of hockey? It is one of the 4 traditional major North American team sports, afterall. Somehow, I doubt we'd be treated to an in-depth explanation of traveling, free-throw percentage, or the 3-second violation if this were basketball, even women's basketball.

All we ever get for Basketball is the difference in paint areas (trapazoid or whatever), oh and maybe an illegal defense.

You know, Russia has a good hockey culture, but after 2014, I think they're probably going to ax women's hockey at the games the same way they did softball. It's very unlikely that the rest of the world is going to close the gap fast enough to make these games remotely competitive outside of US/Canada........sometimes Sweden, and the three host possibilities for 2018 are in Germany, France and South Korea.

softball got axed for the same reason baseball did - the Europeans don't want to build venues for sports they don't play.

Women's hockey will stay for the simple reason that there's also men's hockey. Gender parity is a powerful force.

That and the competition for spots in the Winter Olympics is very tough. I mean they added curling and snowboarding in part to pad the number of events. At most, they might cut the tournament by 2 teams and make it a round robin group of six, with medal round playoffs.

I skied the course years ago with original Crazy Canuck Dave Irwin. Spring skiing conditions, but what a ball buster!
