From what I was reading online somewhere .22 has been the standard for some time.

Yep, gotta be a .22 . The sport of olympic rifle only uses air rifle and .22 as far as I know.

Some ugly weather to shoot in right there. Tim Burke, from Paul Smiths, NY, which is only about an hour from where I live, and 45 from Placid.

Oh wow... Momma Nature opening up

This just brought in starting slots and wax into play way more than normal...

No kidding. Late starters are at a disadvantage. Though there have been a lot of misses.

I can't find the answer to this question but while looking, I found out why NBC didn't show any other ceremonies. Amman got his medal at the ski jumping site; the nightly medal presentations begin tomorrow night, featuring the events from today, and it happens inside at BC Place. That seems a little lame. If you aren't going to do it at the events, I think it should be done outside on the streets somewhere so that people can gather without paying $22 (which is the cost of admission).

Yeah, as I say, there was a festive, joyous feel to the ceremonies in Torino, even the ones not for Italians. Of course, as you say, VANOC has apparantly decided to make the medal ceremonies a profit making venture. I don't like it, but boy these things are expensive to put on. They get bigger every time. I'm wondering if VANOC consulted with the ski jumping federation on whether they wanted to have the ceremony downtown or not.

Nothing I've ever experienced compares to that medal ceremony in Japan where their guys swept and there were 100K people there. Do not buy into the stereotype that Asians always control their emotions--it certainly wasn't true that day.

It just became apparent why we didnt' see the moguls ceremony. It's a 3-4 hour drive from vancouver IIRC. They'll probably do it tonight.

I thought the moguls were closer to Vancouver, at the mountain that is only 30 minutes away. Moguls weren't done in Whistler, like the luge and downhill stuff.

Freestyle Skiing and Snowboarding take place at Cypress Mountain, not Whistler-Blackcomb...

Does freestyle skiing include moguls?

That last graphic definitely showed a .22 shell.

Ah, my mistake. I guess that begs the question, did the ceremony happen last night and NBC blew it, hard? Or is this a primetime deal they were going to savor for tonight?

"At a disadvantage" is a huge understatement. Anybody who started outside of the first 20 or so was outright eliminated from contention for a medal.

They should have to fire .30-06 rifles. Much more exciting. :p

Yea, I caught the slo-mo as well... Makes sense... They are only shooting 50m and you want the lightest, smallest gun you can get away with... Now if they were shooting a .30/06 at 300-400m, THAT would be a competition :D

Is it bad that I really don't care that france is going to get the gold medal over canada just to see the drought continue.

I mean, I hate canada a lot less than I hate france but it's just too funny to watch the canadians suffer through this homefield drought.

I'm guessing that it is going to be tonight, I don't think even NBC would be able to screw up enough to not put the US's first gold medal ceremony on TV. Plus we haven't seen any highlights of it today, so I'm guessing it hasn't happened yet.

With moving targets! Lets make this really interesting!

I wouldn't put ANYTHING past NBC. Anything.

They ought to be cross-country skiing through a forest, shooting an animal, and carrying it to the other edge of the forest. Bonus points for the larger animals.

This is for the world, NOT the U.P. :p
