The Official Thread of the 2009 Little League World Series

It's time once again for the little leaguers to take center stage on ESPN for the next week and a half. I always enjoy watching this every year as there are some tremendous players and memorable moments in this each season.

Today kicked off the World Series portion in Williamsport, PA.

Staten Island, NY crushed Mercer Island, Washington 10-2 in the opening game.

Chinese Taipei shutout Europe 16-0 and now Warner Robbins, Georgia is beating Iowa 5-2.

So far after watching all of the Regional finals I'd say the USA has three really strong teams in Georgia, California, and New York. Texas could possibly compete with those three as well.

I fully expect NY and Georgia to be the two teams out of Pool A and then California should lead Pool B. The second spot is up for grabs.

Obviously still a lot of baseball left to be played but has anyone else been watching these games the past week?

Ahhh, the LLWS Given: Europe getting their arse kicked.

well it was all US kids from a US Air Force base in Germany. So they are severely overmatched in the LLWS (going 7-33 to in their 17 appearances so far)

of course, to your point, they trounced the rest of actual Europe just to get here :p

Heck, they're labeled Germany-US on the LLWS site and are from KMC American Little League

In Europe, they went:
8-1 W over Czech Rep
7-1 W over England
13-1 W over Lithuania
13-0 W over Turkey
11-0 W over Italy
17-0 W over Belarus in the quarters
7-2 W over Italy in the semis
10-0 W over Ukraine in the finals

Like always, I'll be rooting for Japan. My backup teams this year are Taiwan, Curacao, whoever knocks Georgia out of the tournament.

This Chula Vista team is ridiculous! Granted right now Hosman is throwing some pretty good gas and keeping them off balance but his control is mighty suspect.

Luke Ramirez...#3 hitter on California is 6'2 210 for a 13 year old. He is built like a completely grown man.

Im sure there have been plenty of inquiries into his age along Chula Vista's road to the LLWS.

Twelve run 6th inning makes it 14-0.

Re: The Official Thread of the 2009 Little League World Series

This Japan/Curacao game has been entertaining.

9-8 in the fourth inning.

Make that 9-9!

Great steal of home by Curacao!

Re: The Official Thread of the 2009 Little League World Series

You lie...you cannot say the game has been entertaining as soon as we turn the channel. Sure, it is probably more interesting than the Yankees but what isn't?

Re: The Official Thread of the 2009 Little League World Series

ESPN always makes a huge deal about how admission is free, but looking on Wikipedia it says that admission and parking is free for parents and that it is 15 bucks for a box seat and 5 bucks for a lawn seat. If that's true, that means I could go to a single A game and get a box seat 5 bucks cheaper than the LLWS, and the same price for a lawn seat.

Also, can they just keep Europe out and let another Asian or Latin team in? This year they even have a team of Americans posing as Germans and they still can't win.

If anyone knows of a place to find the record for teams from certain countries, states or regions that would be awesome, because I can't remember a European team winning a game before, although I'm sure it has happened some time.

Re: The Official Thread of the 2009 Little League World Series

Europe is almost always represented by the American military kids but there were a couple years where they were represented by a team from Moscow. Of course the result was the same, they got whooped.

Re: The Official Thread of the 2009 Little League World Series

The Saudi team is usually all Americans too, and it's doubly ironic because there is a girl on the roster.

They should put her at pitcher.

Re: The Official Thread of the 2009 Little League World Series

I feel bad for this Saudi team. They've played a heck of a game holding this Curacao team at bay with it 3-3 entering this inning.

Then Curacao gets a 2 run homerun on the Saudi pitcher's last batter because of the 85 pitch count rule. Heartbreaking to see for a region that normally gets demolished here at the LLWS.

I hope they can mount a comeback in this one and then win tomorrow putting Japan, Curacao, and Saudi Arabia at a three way tie. Does anyone know what the tie breaker is? runs scored or against?

Big game at 8pm between Staten Island and Urbandale, Iowa. Loser goes home and winner advances as the #2 seed from Pool A.

Come on Saudis! 2 runs to tie this thing up...

Re: The Official Thread of the 2009 Little League World Series

Mexico holds on to down Chinese Taipei 3-2 in the 6pm game.

Mexico faces Japan tomorrow and then Chinese Taipei plays Curacao on Thursday. Both games start at 6pm.

Chula Vista, CA is playing San Antonio, TX right now with the Californians leading 2-0 on a Kiko Garcia homerun.. Garcia has 14 homeruns in 27 at-bats since the start of the regionals. Thats just ridiculous. Look out Albert Pujols:eek: haha.

Warner Robbins, Georgia awaits the loser of this game and the winner will take on Staten Island tomorrow at 8pm.

IMHO the best four teams in each pool by far made it.

Should be seven great games to decide the 2009 winner.

IMHO, any team could win it. Although Curacao and California have to be the favorites.

Re: The Official Thread of the 2009 Little League World Series

Four run inning for Texas caped by a 2 run homerun by Travis Daves and Texas takes a 4-2 lead over Chula Vista.

I have to wonder how many times this California team has trailed during their run to the LLWS this summer.
