The Official 2013 Oswego State Post/Pre-Season Thread - "Love All, Serve All"...

Very nice, but obviously strictly for training, as there appears to be no spectator seating.

And it is really tough to run an actual indoor track meet when the track has only 3 lanes.

Actually I believe they are coming off their best year. Not quite Platty Elimira or Norwich talent yet.

But the recruiting advantage Oswego has with their facility is astounding. There's a reason why the men's team can easily get topnotch talent. There's no reason the women can't match that. Yet, the women have consistently been a bit better than .500 at best.

I knew Russell would agree with me. The quality of the rink and the training facilities is so high and I think the fan support would be better if the quality of the product on the ice was better.

Correct - the plan was to maximize the usage and utility of the space...

This program is 7 years old, and the last three has seen steady improvement. This past season they were 10-6 in conference, finished 3rd and made the playoffs. I say the glasss is half full.

And got shutout at home Neumann in the playoffs.

Norwich, Adrian and St. Norbert all have teams younger than Oswego's and yet they all have a winning percentage over .500, while Oswego's is .41 or something like that. With the rink they have, training facilities they have, institutional support, student media support, and a school that is upgrading almost everything you would think the improvement would be moving at a bit quicker pace.

This really doesn't have a huge impact on recruiting, but I've been to a few women's games at the campus center. Average attendance has to be fewer than 50. What I don't understand is why tickets to a women's game cost as much as a men's game. Season tickets for the women cost MORE than season tickets to the men. They do it right with the basketball teams. You buy a season ticket for me's bball, you get into the women's games for free.

I would think if they tried to schedule more home doubleheaders (women play at 3, men at 7) and offer free admission to the women's game if you have a ticket to the men's game, you might get more people in the seats.

I agree there are better ways to package and market the women's games - they deserve more fan support in person - I can tell you the online unique viewers of WTOP webcasts average more than 225 per game - up 280% over last year...their home playoff game drew more than 425 viewers online...hard to measure how that impacts recruiting, but I don't think it can hurt...

One correction - season tix for the ladies are a buck a game less than the men...

From Oz athletic website - The men’s ice hockey team will play 14 home games and one exhibition game during the 2012-13 regular season. Men’s season tickets cost $105 for the general public. The women's ice hockey team will play 15 home games and one exhibition game during the 2012-13 regular season. Women’s season tickets cost $96 for the general public.

At Plattsburgh, "There is no regular-season admission charge for women's hockey, softball, baseball, soccer, volleyball and men's lacrosse contests."

833 Attended the St Norbert game.

389 Saw Oswego, 537 with Utica and 421 against Middlebury, so there is potential interest, IMO.

Elmira won a national championship in the first two years they ever existed.

Oswego has a huge recruiting advantage in their facilities. They should be way better than this after seven years.

Yeah, it absolutely blows my mind they charge for women's game. Dumb as dumb can be.

When RIT women were D3, the games were free for everyone. And they were national championship contenders.

I haven't been to a Lady Laker game since I finished school because I can't see paying eight bucks a pop for them. I would pay three or maybe even five but not eight. The product on the ice is ok but nowhere near the level of the men. And for the record I actually think eight bucks a game is a bit steep for the men as most places we go it is five or less.

SNC ticket pricing ranges from $5 up to $9 for the men...I believe its $5 for the women.

Norwich does this for hockey (and doesn't charge anything for a worthless sport like basketball).
