Nope we won't this is from NHL's website

Selleck faces hearing for incident vs. Hurricanes
Florida Panthers forward Eric Selleck faces a hearing with the Department of Player Safety on Wednesday afternoon.

The following grounds for potential supplemental discipline are being considered: leaving the players' bench on a legal line change for the purpose of starting or joining an altercation (Rule 70.2). The incident occurred at the 17:02 mark of the third period during a game Tuesday night against the Carolina Hurricanes at PNC Arena.

In addition, Selleck was assessed a two-minute minor for instigating plus a five-minute major for fighting and game misconduct under Rule 46.12 (Instigator in Final Five Minutes of Regulation Time [or Anytime in Overtime]) and has received an automatic one-game suspension.

So he already has a 1 game suspension and I believe I saw Florida recalled Quinton Howden so if there is a longer suspension that may mean he gets sent down.
that sucks

Re: The Official 2013 Oswego State Post/Pre-Season Thread - "Love All, Serve All"...

"Florida Panthers forward Eric Selleck has been suspended two games by the NHL's Department of Player Safety, according to an announcement by the league on Wednesday afternoon. Selleck was suspended for leaving the bench on a legal line change and then starting a fight with Carolina Hurricanes forward Kevin Westgarth. In the video explaining the suspension, it's clearly shown that Selleck left the bench with the sole intention of engaging Westgarth in a fight.

Brendan Shanahan noted in the video that Selleck made no attempt to locate where the puck was on the ice, instead opting to locate a rival player. This action violated league rule 70.2, which opens players who leave the bench to start a fight to discipline.

Selleck was already guaranteed a one-game suspension for starting a fight in the final five minutes of a game. However, the Department of Player Safety also decided to add an additional game for leaving the bench to start a fight.

The game was Selleck's first in the NHL. He will forfeit $5,945.94 in salary, which will be donated to the Players' Emergency Assistance Fund."

Re: The Official 2013 Oswego State Post/Pre-Season Thread - "Love All, Serve All"...

Ummm... that would be "no". ;)
Ok, could someone explain to me what was the point of Selleck's "activities?" It was pretty clear that Westgarth was looking for someone mix it up with. Was Selleck sent out by the bench or just a thing he did on his own? And, what did he hope to accomplish, knowing the penalties for his actions?

It would be a shame if that was the extent of his NHL activities. It might very well be. As I said in an earlier post, you must win your fights in the NHL if that's what you're called up to do. What a career line that would be though, 1 GP, 0-0-0, 11 shifts, 7:47 ice time, 1 shot and 17pim ! You'd have to look pretty far in the NHL record books to find a similar one.But hey, at least he got there !!!

Clearly, he was told on the bench to go mix it up with the other guy. He just didn't show a lot of finesse the way he did it, so he picked up his penalties and suspensions. Guys coming off the bench specifically to start fights or injure an opponent is one of the things that the NHL is trying to prevent.

Brendan Shanahan and the NHL player discipline committee had one of their infamous videos up yesterday explaining the entire scenario and why Selleck was assessed the two-game suspension.

You can see that Selleck clearly skates directly from the bench to Westgarth looking to mix it up after Westgarth was trying to pick at other Panther players. Selleck went up to defend his teammates and could have been told to do so by his coach and because it happened in the last 5 minutes of the game and he picked up the instigator, that's why he's in this mess.

The video shows it all and explains it thoroughly.

What the video doesn't show is Westgarth face washing two panthers players in front of the net during play (away from the puck) trying to get them to fight him. Selleck jumped off the bench when the puck came out of the zone. While the fight didn't go well, I bet the coaches were okay with what Selleck did.

And, I bet Westgarth's right hand is still swollen and sore from that upper cut.

Re: The Official 2013 Oswego State Post/Pre-Season Thread - "Love All, Serve All"...

It was to bad that Selleck appeared to be directed to fight. The coach should be the one getting the suspension and not the player in this case. One of the things Tim Hale told me as we talked in Placid was that Selleck was trying to more develop his hockey game and skills and not be the fighter as in this case. To bad the coach appeared to direct this from his player. Lets hope there is a silver lining for Selleck here.

Lots of speculation- what evidence is there that "the coach appeared to direct this from his player"? If his coach did direct him to engage why didn't the league fine the coach as well? I'm sure the question was asked- "did he jump or was he pushed"? Did Selleck do this on his own to make an impression with the Panthers on his first trip up to the NHL? My thinking is that if the coach was involved he would have been at least mentioned in the decision.

Maybe Eric just still had his AHL hat on and was thinking that this was what hockey was all about. Note to ES- "You're not in Kansas any more!"

So you think its out of the question a coach DIDN'T direct him just because he didn't get finned? So you think Selleck would rat and say "coach told me to"? That would be a smart move. ...

I have a strong feeling they (the coaches/team) saw what Westgarth was doing and said go take care of it. Could it more have been meant "during the play" and not right this second....hard to say...

The heck with the suspension....he stuck up for a team he had been with for 57 minutes....
