The Official 2010 Miami offseason thread: 3rd times a charm??? maybe???

Re: The Official 2010 Miami offseason thread: 3rd times a charm??? maybe???

Also this went under the radar but is worth noting.

Congrats to Matt Cady, he was promoted to Director of hockey operations to replace Nick Petragglia who was promoted to assistant. This is another george gwozdecky product as he was a grad assistant under gwoz after finishing his playing career at miami. I believe he will still be the strength coach as well. Really happy for Matt, he's a great guy and deserves the opportunity.

Gotcha, it will happen. Attendance was still pretty solid. Get more now for a game against lake st. than in the mid 90's.

I guess to be fair to the casual student fans RMU, WMU, LSSU & UNO are not exactly the sexiest match ups, just seemed like wanning attendance since they were all stung together the second part of the year. Before Christmas the lines were out the door by 4:30 for every game but it is safe to say that MSU, ND, and SCSU are easier draws.

Well for sure. Not sure how Western and BG will draw but would think it would be enough for the students to come see two former coaches. I wonder if the fact that Miami ran away with the conference had anything to do with it. Didn't think student attendacne was all that bad, nothing to worry about IMO.

It wasnt bad per say, more just a relative lack of enthusiasm. People sitting down at games, showing up 10 minutes before wristbands ect. ect. Just not the same as it was at the start of the year. Running away with the CCHA probably contributed but at least for me that isn't a reason to be less excited about games.

Your point is valid. Have you thoughts about forming a student organization centered around events to help promote and hype games around campus? Might be a way to get more students involved and excited and even more aware about other teams that don't have name power.

Ryan Hartman has signed to play with the USNTDP next year.

Also Gacek had 2 goals and 2 assits at Nationals for the Monarchs. Adding to his 60 + point season....really exciting player.

Just driving through campus, saw a Miami license pate numbered "HAWKEY". Mad props to the owner.

Miami folk,

Some guy from Novosibirsk posted your game against BC in 2010 Frozen Four on the Russian bittorrent tracker, rutracker.org, with commentary and play-by-play in Russian:http://rutracker.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2890110

The Russian commentators are professionals, albeit of a regional, as opposed to national stature: Alexander Tkachev and Sergei Kashirskii. Sergei Kashirskii was the Vice President (and a de-facto GM) of HC Spartak Moscow from 2002 to 2006. Spartak is one of the more famous old Soviet clubs.

The files in the torrent also have English soundtrack (Gary Thorne & Barry Melrose). I haven't actually downloaded these, so can't attest to quality. I assume Sergei Kashirskii is doing color commentary and Tkachev is doing play-by-play.

Thought you guys might find this interesting or at least somewhat amusing.

Wasn't Shane Berschbach a former Miami recruit/verbal?

Now he's headed to Western Michigan (follows junior coach).

What is the story behind this?

Yes he was...Not going to get into the particulars...but Miami pulled his scholarship for undisclosed reasons. Not surprised he ended up at western under his junior coach. Though he would go there or BG after his scholarship got pulled.

Sean Kurlay has just committed. Check out the article to get his numbers. Big big signing, this kid is a natural sniper and has been over the past 3 seasons. He has put on some weight which is good as he was a bean pole playing U 16's. His dad Rick played at Miami in the early 80's and he played with Connor Murphy in columbus as well. The future continues to look bright with a lot of guys coming in that can puck the puck in the net...boy it is exciting to see some of this talent listed, can't wait to see them in oxford.

:( link

San Jose signed their sixth rounder from 2008 Tommy Wingels. He is a defensive specialist who found some offensive pop in his junior year with Miami (CCHA). His offense has really come along and he is worth watching as a possible future depth guy.

Great start to my morning  .

Just kidding, good for Tommy. When the NHL comes calling you have to go, just never know with injuries and whatnot. Wish him the best of luck.

Take your pick of Miele, Cannone, or Carter? I really don't know much about who is considered to be a leader on the team.

Awesome! Guess he was not one of the ones cheering for Ferris when all the Midget teams were in Oxford last fall :p .

Im just glad this finally came out lol, been known for a while. Listen He was the only guy I though would leave. In the grand scheme of things it won't kill this team. But his impact on the program was special. He is a fantastic person and player, Im thrilled for him to get this opportunity and have no doubt he will succeed.

Honestly its better that one jumps early, it is awful scary to lose such a large group of talented players at once. Now granted the talent level of the incoming freshmen is huge and is added by bringing in Kurlay...Guys I have seen this kid play for the last 3 years and he is a dynamic with the puck. Can't emphasis enough how good of a signing this is. He will get better in indy this coming year and hopefully puts on a little more weight but he is exciting to watch.

Considering his dad is an Alum and has his name and number on the wall, I would hope not :D .

Miele is my pick, if not him I would look at Schilling or Loverde.
