The Official 2010 Miami offseason thread: 3rd times a charm??? maybe???

Re: The Official 2010 Miami offseason thread: 3rd times a charm??? maybe???

Just throwing this out there to show what a class act the Miami program is, my 25 year old nephew was born with spina bifida and now plays sled hockey. They skated an exihibition during one of the Nebraska Omaha games this past season. They asked him to come back and be part of some kind of disabilties demonstration that happened today. My nephew called me tonight while I was at work because he was so excited. Pat Cannone, Justin Vaive and another guy (he couldn't remember his name :) ) played for a while with him and, according to my nephew, he schooled them in the art of sled hockey. lol.

Nephew said these guys were awesome! He had a great time and I'm sure the guys did too. I only wish I could have been there to watch him upend Vaive. :D

I actually was invited to this event through Facebook. They had the equipment there and some experienced players to put on a bit of a demonstration before inviting others to play. I know, as you mentioned, that a number of guys from the hockey team were planning to go. It's wonderful that they had an event like this. I wish I could have checked it out!

Not sure how many of you receive the Miamian, but a terrific article in there on Brendan Burke and all of his contributions to Miami, the hockey program, and youth hockey alike. Really brings it full circle and always talks about the foundation started in his name. Really shows what a tremendous kid he was.

Because I like you guys, I'll let you know that you have a visitor coming in two weeks. NTDP defenseman Joey Fiala. Of course you may already know this and I'll look like a ******. Either way, I like Miami...there...I said it.

Also, forgive me if you have a recruiting thread that I don't know about.

If he does end up at Miami we can only hope that he is as successful as our current NTDP alumnus.

Thanks for the info, Chuck.

rhm, I saw that article - very nicely done and another great tribute, this time by Paul Daugherty.

Porch, that sounds like a fun event for all involved. And, I bet your nephew did school them.

awe chuck us red and white clad got to stick together lol, hopefully you will join in our hatred of Boston College with us lol.

Thanks for that update, I hadn't heard that but it isn't surprising that they are bringing in a defenseman. We will have a void at that position most liekly heading into 2011. You have a connection with the kid? any other insight would be appreciated.

He's a local kid, from Madison.

Boy things in South Bend are starting to spirial out of control. They had a rough season, Ruth leaves school and now Palmieri and Sheahan have been arrestted....Hate to see that happen but makes you feel really good about the character angle that this coaching staff at Miami really focuses on...not many of those type issues here. Outside of loverde but I think we can cut him some slack under the circumstances in which he was under at the time of his incident.

Great thread here. Poster started a thread and used a mathematical formula based on several different categories to come up with the top programs of the decade. He started at 60 and is working his way down. Here is where Miami came in...

#12 Miami RedHawks
mu.gif

Points: 91.089

Regular Season Titles: 2
Tournament Titles: 0
NCAA appearances: 6
Frozen Four appearances: 2

Record: 226-139-37 (.608)
vs Top 10: .372

Eight 20-win seasons; their high was 33 in the 2008 campaign. Have been to the last two Frozen Fours. Killed by their lack of success in the CCHA Tournament, peaking with second twice and third twice. Would be in the top 10 except for the inexplicable collapse in the 2009 NCAA Championship. Won five games out of conference against the top 10.

Re: The Official 2010 Miami offseason thread: 3rd times a charm??? maybe???

A former co-blog writer interviewed Joey Fiala (the kid I mentioned the other day) and he talks a little about his recruiting so far.

I'm assuming you've had some interest from Division I College Programs? When did you start hearing from them, and if you don't mind sharing it with us, who have you heard from?

I have had offers for visits from Miami, Wisconsin, Yale, Maine, Quinnipiac, Northeastern, Alaska-Anchorage, RIT, Princeton, Dartmouth, and Holy Cross. I have had interest from Michigan State, Nebraska-Omaha, and Bowling Green. I visited Mankato, but it wasn’t the right fit for me. I am visiting Miami on the weekend of Mother’s Day. There have been a couple of coaching changes with CCHA schools that I might be interested in now. I plan to make my decision in the spring or the summer. I started hearing from colleges in the beginning of my freshman year.

Thanks for that chuck! I would have to think Wisco is a top choice being the home town team. And along with his comments I would have to think Bowling Green and possibly Western will be high on his list. BG because he has had contact with Coach Berg Im sure....Probably OSU too as Im sure he has talked to their new head coach. Sounds like he is a hot prospect. But sounds like he will decide soon and if Miami is only the second school he is visiting he either will be really busy the next month or has it narrowed down.

Who else have we had from the US program. Obviously VAIVE. I think Nate too. And soon biggs Murphy and looks like Hartman.

I was definitely referencing our good buddy VAIVE in my post.

I think I will go watch the VAIVE workout video now

Yes, Davis and also Justin Mercier and Joe Pomaranski are a couple of others off the top of my head.
