The NFL Thread, Part III: What lockout?

Re: The NFL Thread, Part III: What lockout?

I can't be mad at you with a picture like that. Well played. :D

:D

Yeah, I'm just joking around anyways. I get that he really grinds gears to the point where people need to grind axes. I've just always admired what he's done on the field. He MUST be in the discussions for greatest college careers of all time.

Re: The NFL Thread, Part III: What lockout?

Has he ever really said that though? Nothing like that immediately springs to mind, though admit I don't follow him too closely.

Even his Super Bowl ad, which everyone was so worked up about, wound up being so benign that it was laughable.

I saw an Outside the Lines report where Tebow was addressing a group of prisoners and he said "If you don't accept Jesus Christ, then you're going to hell." Sure, I believe in God, but there are plenty of nice and upstanding people who are agnostic (dated one in college and she did charity work and other community things) or atheist. There are different paths in getting to the Promised Land. I just don't like the fact he thinks his way is the only way.

Re: The NFL Thread, Part III: What lockout?

I'm not going to argue the point too strenuously, but I hardly think speaking at a prison (to which he had presumably been invited to speak about his life/faith- you don't exactly show up at prisons unannounced) counts as forcing himself on anyone.

As to his quarterbacking ability, he wasn't very good today, but he's still kept them in games better than Orton, so hey.

Also, I think it's a media creation. I remember when he was with Florida that they'd treat him like a Christian soldier looking to conquer the heathen enemy. I'm sure there were plenty of opponents that faced Tebow were faithful and went to church. (Maybe except for the U and Florida State.) The religion thing plus the overhype is a recipe for backlash.

Had a great college career and there's no denying it. However, his arm is weak, his throwing motion needs work, he gets happy feet, he's run first. The man can lead a team, and I honestly think he would be great as a coach of some sort. The man can motivate a group of people inside and outside of the field of play. Plus, Urban Meyer's system made a lot of QBs look good.

BTW: How'd that little program Torquemada ran work out for him? :D

It was an orphanage in the Philippines and he was telling children that if they didn't accept Jesus Christ as their savior they were going to hell. He was "invited" to speak because his father runs a charity fund (and how many "donations" came from Florida boosters?) for children in the Philippines.

And this isn't on him, but if anyone dares question his ability as a QB, they are treated as though they are crucifying Christ himself. It gets old.

The specific incident MountieBoy was referring to was at a prison, as shown here.

His dad's a missionary. He comes to your country, expect to get preached to. That's sort of what missionaries do. Again, not what I'd call forcing himself on people. Tebow had been going to the Phillipines since he was in high school, so your Florida boosters jibe seems rather unhinged. Which is a large part of the reason I like to see Tebow do well, for all the reactions it brings out.

Edit: To be more specific here, I take "forcing himself" as things like being asked, "Hey Tim, what are you guys thinking about the Dolphins this week?" and responding "Repent or burn in hell" or something silly like that. From what I've seen, and I'd be eager to see evidence otherwise, he's kept football stuff with football and faith stuff separate.

I'm sure we'd be hearing the same thing if he and his father were preaching the Quran ;)

Priceless, by USCHO Forum rules any time you mention anything remotely resembling a reference to History of the World: Part I, you will be forced to enjoy said reference.

I don't know about that. I've heard and know plenty of people who don't think he's going to be a good QB in this league.

Re: The NFL Thread, Part III: What lockout?

Dear Drew Brees:
Thank you for throwing 2 TDs to Colston. Now throw to someone else.
Kthxbye!

Re: The NFL Thread, Part III: What lockout?

Colston and Graham are pounding my ho-hos flat with a rubber mallet.

Re: The NFL Thread, Part III: What lockout?

This is the worst collection of 4 PM games/SNF/MNF I can remember.

This was supposed to be a Super Bowl rematch, Peyton Manning returning to New Orleans where his father was a hero and a great game between two good teams and two of the best QB's in the game...then Manning went and got hurt and we're left with this abomination.
