The NFL Thread (cont'd)

Re: The NFL Thread (cont'd)

If it turns into Euro soccer, goodbye to Buffalo, Jacksonville, Cleveland and others.

About 1/3 of the league, in my opinion, with another 8-10 playing cost control. The thing would implode, because I can't imagine such a scenario doesn't lead to the TV networks saying "Whoa, what the hell is this nonsense?"

Edit: Oh, definitely on the TV thing if what I read elsewhere is true. No group TV contracts would be allowed, either. Goodbye Sunday Ticket, goodbye national coverage, goodbye RedZone, goodbye Sunday and Monday Night football. Each team gets to negotiate their own TV rights.

Almost worth it just to see it happen.

Just would turn it into a similar structure as MLB, I don't see that being catastrophic (at least in the short term).

The real issue would be what happens if the league is found to violate anti-trust regulations as opposed to just operating without a players union and a CBA.

The nightmare scenario is to have the league be nailed for anti-trust violations, that would blow all current NFL contracts up and THAT would be pure anarchy. Neither side has anything to gain from that event, and it has become a game of chicken to see who blinks first.

Ask the USFL what happens when the NFL is accused of violating anti-trust laws (from wiki):

In 1986, the USFL (having recently decided to compete directly with the NFL) filed an anti-trust lawsuit against the National Football League. The NFL was found to have violated anti-monopoly laws. However, in a Pyrrhic victory, the USFL was awarded a judgment of just $1, which, under anti-trust laws, was tripled to $3.

I really don't mean to turn this into a political thread, but the irony of a group of billionaires wanting (some) of its employees to have collective bargaining and arguing against the alternative is priceless in the face of other goings on around the country.

Dear Lord,

Please let Ralph Wilson, Chan Gailey, Buddy Nix, Tom Modrak get lost on the way to the draft war room. Heck, let the fans pick for you. I'm sure they might do a better job then that crew of morons.

Signed,
Bills Fans

You know, EVERYONE knows you hate the bills ownership, management and coaches...why don't you stop complaining about it already.

Re: The NFL Thread (cont'd)

Just frustrated, Shirtless.

This team does the opposite of what the fans want. There's a history of that with this team. I wanted a young, dynamic coach and GM, but we get geezers instead. They throw money at terrible free agents. They drafted Aaron Maybin instead of Brian Orakpo.

There was a time that Bills fans were proud, but now we are almost ashamed. People just laugh and shake their heads at us. Bills fans were actually hoping for a long lockout so they can look forward to something on Sunday. I know the Lions have had it bad, but there is light at the end of tunnel with Stafford, Suh and the rest of the young corps. We have a QB from Harvard.

The problems start at the top. Ralph Wilson sold his Wilson Farms stores to 7-11. It's about time he does the same with his football club. New blood is needed.

I'm guessing I will be able to hear the "boo" when Roger Goddell steps up to the podium for the first time without benefit of my TV.

So tell us who you want them to draft tonight.

This. You've had 4 Super Bowls. I'm a Lions fan. I've seen 1 playoff win in my lifetime. I don't want to hear a ****ing word.
