The NFL Thread (cont'd)

Re: The NFL Thread (cont'd)

I think it depends on if a stay is issued on the ruling.

I'm not a lawyer, I don't play one online, and I didn't stay at a Holiday Inn last night, so take that for what it's worth.

Re: The NFL Thread (cont'd)

Good question. The NFL is appealing the decision so can anything happen before the appeal is ruled on?
Haha, who knows...if there is a stay, I'm pretty sure the lockout continues until the higher court rules. I wonder if the NFL will ask for a stay but try not to have the paperwork filed in time for the draft so players can be traded :P

Re: The NFL Thread (cont'd)

Sounds like some players are planning to just show up at work.
AdamSchefter
NFL Managment Council told teams to let players into buildings Tuesday, but also recommended keeping weight rooms closed.
But no access to the weight rooms. What are they going to do, work on the Penske file?

I have to wonder if there's a certain amount that teams are actually contractually obligated to provide... 'cause if not then they don't really need to provide it.

Re: The NFL Thread (cont'd)

This is turning into an interesting week for the NFL, nonetheless.

I just hope they get all the **** figured out so we can play football come September.:p

This. But I can see the NFL doing the absolute minimum, if only to try and prove a point. Man, if there's no NFL........well, I'll be in a corner in the fetal position.

I've been a season ticket holder up at the dome since birth. My dad has a picture of me with my first pee at the troughs, i can barely get over it:p I'm an avid fantasy football guy, I post on footballsfuture.com, I bleed purple and gold come football season, I've been to training camp since I can remember, I think i'd go absolutely insane. Something about football just gets me. I love it almost as much as hockey, but I'm at the point right now where Thursday is one of the best days of the Spring.

Just think, we could watch bowling on sundays over on ESPN without the NFL.

Re: The NFL Thread (cont'd)

I'm an avid NFL fan, FFL player (in FFL for the last 19 years, more than half my life), vigilantly have gone to Old Chicago (and back before the bars had the NFL ticket, it was Mystic Lake, since THEY had the Ticket) for the past 7-8 years every Sunday to watch the most possible games), and oftentimes have the radio on one game/tv has another/internet has the rest.

I have no clue what I'd do on Sundays. I'd honestly be lost. JFC, for the last 5 years, it was

1. Wake up at 9:30am, perform the 3 S's (if you have to ask, you are not a guy, nor do you know a guy)
2. Pregame show at 10am.
3. Leave for OC at 10:45am to get our table (and I do mean OUR table) at OC, which opens at 11am.
4. Watch first games there.
5. Head home and finish off watching NFL until the last game ends, usually around 11pm.
6. Watch post-day highlights for an hour or so.

It is my religious season.

Re: The NFL Thread (cont'd)

The collective groan about the lockout ending is from the City of Buffalo. They thought they were going to get a vacation from losing on Sunday. :D

Re: The NFL Thread (cont'd)

So this has probably been explained somewhere, but why is Minnesota where all the legal activity is taking place?

Re: The NFL Thread (cont'd)

If they didn't play, I wouldn't really miss it. Its fun watching the games, and I'll get into the season to some degree, but if the NFL wasn't there I'd find something else to fill the time and it wouldn't bother me. Hockey or Baseball on the other hand...

Re: The NFL Thread (cont'd)

No draft, no salary cap, no minimum salary. Sure, Roger, I buy that.

That could very well be the case, but maybe the owners should have thought of that BEFORE they opped out of the CBA and then locked out the players.

Clearly, the owners didn't grasp the risks that they (and the NFL in general) faced under a worst case scenario.

Anyone who doesn't believe that the players will reform as a union once this is all settled to negotiate a new CBA is fooling themselves, this is all posturing to see who has the upperhand during those negotiations.

The NFLs bigger concern will be if they are found to be in violation of anti-trust laws. If the player's trade association doesn't win in court, I suspect that they will fold like a house of cards very quickly. By and larger, the owners have the ability to present a more unified front for a longer time period.

Personally, I'd like to see what happens with the NFL is the absence of a draft.
