Re: The New WCHA 3, Revenge of the Sieve (2013-14)

Tech should just leave the ice. **** the shootout and who really effing cares what Duluth wants? Its not our fault that their idiotic league wants to settle games with some silly shootout.

Yeah, that makes absolutely no sense. As long as it's a league-specific thing, it still counts as a tie, and there's no league points on the line, so it serves absolutely no purpose whatsoever. In a tournament as a tie-breaker, ok, but a regular non-conference series?

Maybe they just wanted a warm-up for league play :p

Right, that's why UMD and SCSU wanted to do it, but why would BSU and Tech go along with it? Surely they didn't have to. Why help them out by giving them more practice on shootouts?

Re: The New WCHA 3, Revenge of the Sieve (2013-14)

Probably because it's a friendly gesture that will help ensure we continue scheduling UMD, and that they will alternate with travel to Houghton every other season (where there will not be a shootout). Much as I hate the shootout, I don't mind tolerating it in Duluth's building, because the odds of replacing the Bulldogs with a comparable or better opponent willing to reciprocate are very low.

Unfortunate as it is, this is the key to the equation...

League Results from Tonight:

UAH loses @ Northeastern 3-2
BGSU loses @ Union 5-2
LSSU beats Robert Morris 3-1
BSU ties @ SCSU 2-2
MTU ties @ UMD 1-1
NMU loses @ Wisconsin 2-1

UA loses to Quinnipiac 4-1 at a neutral site
UAA is still scoreless in their game against Air Force

Not exactly a good night.

Because coaches don't act like bitter fans.

This. I don't find it to be a big deal. And we only had to do a 2/3 shootout because UMD shoots as well in the shootout as we did in regulation....

UND and Vermont also had a shootout. Home ice...our rules. If the games had not been on NCHC sheets, there might not have been shootouts.

Mankato apparently lapsed back into old, bad habits this weekend, spending way too much time in the penalty box.

Sounds like the Nanooks....way too much time in the box during their win and loss.

Re: The New WCHA 3, Revenge of the Sieve (2013-14)

While it wasn't a great showing it isn't all that surprising when you look at home/road splits so far for the WCHA:

Home 4-0-0
Neutral 1-1-0
Road 1-10-3

Certainly need to improve that road record but it was the first weekend of the season...hopefully they can improve this coming weekend. More home games coming up for WCHA this weekend:

Bowling Green has 3 home games this week
Ferris State (plus road game on tuesday), Bemidji State, Minnesota State, Northern Michigan and Alaska are at home this weekend with Anchorage Neutral
Michigan Tech, LSSU are on the road.
