The New WCHA, 2014 Offseason: See-ya, Bruce

A WCHA Facebook post yesterday indicated the commish was scouting office locations in the Twin Cities. Sounds like the HQ move is imminent.

The offices should be in a WCHA city.

I like Soo or Marquette.

Make the Commish move to a real hockey town.

There aren't many hockey towns more real than Minneapolis-St Paul. Why not a city that has convenient flight access to and from all member markets? The commissioner does travel a lot to the various cities each week. If he's going to Anchorage, isn't the 6 hour trip better from MSP than the 14 hour excursion from Marquette which doesn't even have flights to MSP?

I would like this Commish get to know how hockey is in the WCHA towns. Having him in a plushy office in Edina is not the answer. We need him to have his but in one of the hard working towns of the WCHA. I don't think he will never understand how things work without having first hand knowledge of the WCHA teams. He only has knowledge of how the NHL works and this is the WCHA. Have him spend a winter in the Soo or Fairbanks. His eyes would open quickly. This Commish just doesn't know what he is dealing with. This isn't the NHL.

That's why making it convenient to travel to all the markets is critical. He needs to see all the markets as often as possible. Staying here in the Soo isn't going to help. If the flights here are so convenient, why do the Lakers bus to Detroit to go to Alaska?

I would want to see the Commish jump on a bus from Houghton to Huntsville with Huskies team in the heart of the winter.

So two more players have to double up on that trip? .

The Commish needs to see first hand how difficult travel is in the present WCHA. He needs to know how difficult it is for teams to get from point A to point B. I challenge him to join the teams on difficult trips.

And that will accomplish what, other than to make him say "what the h*** did I get into". This league needs someone who will be around for a while and build things. If building media outlets are one of the main concerns, then being in the Twin Cities Media market is a helluva lot better than being in Bemidji, the Soo, Marquette or any other city in the league.

Plus, I am sure the Commish is well aware of the travel involved in this league as I am sure it has come up in conversations.

The commissioner's first executive order should be to ban Pink Pony from all WCHA arenas.

His second executive order should be to ban Pink Pony from USCHO.

The Commish: Hey coach, it's the commish! Would you mind if I hopped on your bus to Huntsville and took up valuable space making a couple more members of your group a little less comfortable so I can see just how long and difficult the trip is for myself?

Coach: #### %#%€£ *****!!!

Do you plebs really think that this commissioner isn't going to be fully engaged? No doubt he already has a schedule in place to visit each community extensively and engage with private interested parties and the public on multiple occasions throughout the year. A requirement or even just a desire that he experience the travel is just short of ludicrous. Any mature adult of his age has had plenty of experience travelling to easily empathize. If you don't "think" the new guy in the job isn't going to bust his *** trying to identify and prioritize the complex issues while taking into account the various proposals to rectify said issues then you aren't really "thinking".

I know the men's league dominates our posting here, but keep in mind there are SEVEN WCHA member teams in Minnesota and the commish does represent the men's and women's programs. I think MN is a very suitable location for the new HQ.
