Yeah.... no. Absolutely not. Rick Comley before Jamie Russell. Hell, even Don Waddell before Jamie Russell.
But think of all the moral victories the WCHA claim!

I think Michigan Tech (being the most centrally located, owners of the McNaughton Cup, etc.) should host the league offices and tournament, and poach an alum to serve as commissioner.
Why would MSP be the best? The whole state of Minnesota will only have two of the 9 teams in the league. By that logic, you may as well put it in Anchorage.I don't see how moving the offices or changing the commissioner before 2012-13 would negatively impact the current schools who are already preparing the infrastructure that they need to have in place going forward.
It's important to remember that the wcha will still have a woman's league that will have many of the schools who are leaving. I think that they should move the league offices out of Denver, but the most logical new location would be in Minneapolis/St Paul area.

Why?Maybe the WCHA should have the final five tourney in Fargo/Moorhead area.

Good point about the women's program. It's too bad that there will only two WCHA men's schools in the WCHA women's league. For the Men's league maybe, but the UMN and UMD womans teams will still be in the WCHA (it is comprised of both men's AND woman's teams). More importantly MSP is centrally located at an airport hub.
Given that I suspect that the league offices will be located on the campus of the member schools and the Woman's WCHA is located on the UW madison campus, I think that ANY of the schools that are on the men's side can be home to the league offices provided that they are willing to furnish the required office space and travel to the location isn't overly difficult (how close and good is your "local" airport) is it for people and staff to come and go. While I think that UAA and UAF would work, I think the time difference would make it very difficult to conduct because you'd only have a 4 or 5 hour window before many of the schools in the eastern time zone would be closing their offices. I think that Houghton might be a little to remote and I wonder if schools might be hesitant to put it at BGSU only to have to move it in a few years if they join the other MAC teams in the NCHC. Bemidji and Big Rapids may not have the best air travel arrangement's. That leaves Mankato or Marquette as possible homes, and I think that the nod may go to NMU.
I vote for moving the Men's WCHA offices to NMU.
Why not look for a commissioner outside of college hockey
Good stuff. You should polish it up and send to the ADs.The CCHA will bring the majority of teams to the New WCHA and the old CCHA hacks are likely to have a good shot at the gigs in the new conference.
My hope is for the new league to shed old college hockey dogmas and develop a fun, competitive and profitable league through innovative ideas. Why not look for a commissioner outside of college hockey or even sports in general? How about a CEO or businessman that has had success in marketing and promotion? Why not grab a young CIO with a love for hockey? This conference can be smarter and better run without the self-aggrandizing and politicking that exists today. Instead of catering to the interests of Denver and South Bend, the New WCHA will care about hockey in Big Rapids and Bemidji. I understand the initial blow to all our teams when we discovered we were being left in the dust for greener pastures, but now I'm starting to feel pretty excited about the new conference. The New WCHA will be full of programs with hockey purists and school's located in some of the most hockey fervent places in the States. A league without the condescension of the Big Ten or the wannabe Big Ten. The new league can capitalize on the passion for hockey in Marquette that you won't find in Columbus and the hockey knowledge in Mankato that doesn't exist in Omaha. How many of us love a particular hockey program but don't live close enough to attend every game? Big cities can fill big arenas, but quality internet broadcasts through Roku or another service would allow alumni and non-locals a chance to keep up with the New WCHA long after they have graduated and moved. The website could provide easy access to local sports columns and act as a college hockey news aggregator. I'm excited for the possibilities of the new league and I honestly think it should be the mission of the its leaders to try to develop a conference that is a rival and not a subsidiary of the bigger ones. The New WCHA will be an opportunity for the schools and towns that need hockey to get through long winters to better serve their interests. This starts with proactive athletic directors and an innovative commissioner.
That's because it's the NCHC, not because it's a bad idea. We even make fun of them for eating lunch.Isn't that exactly what all the "LOL NaCHO" posters on here have been lambasting the NCHC for?

I think this highlights the difference between the NCHC and the WCHA (and perhaps is why we are not like-minded institutions). When the WCHA fans take a hypocritical stand we own up to it for what it is. When the NCHC does the same, they trot out Gwoz to ramble on non-sensically for 30 minutes about the betterment of college hockey.
Not to mention audio/video of all the coach's shows. Maybe the Mel Pearson Show should be live from Applebee's on monday nightsTotally agree. The WCHA has a great opportunity to be different.
As far as roku, I'd put every game on there. One game per week could be the WCHA game of the week and would be free. All the other games would cost money to see and would be archived. (Check out the NHL Roku channel, it's well done.)
I'd also tape moose's radio show, (moose, if mike and mike can be on tv, you can too. they are nothing to look at either.) and I'd put it on there on thursdays. I'd start up a new and different inside the WCHA show and it would be mid week. There's lot's of things you could do to get interest.
In other words, make the WCHA web site and channel a place the fans go to regularly.
