The new Super League is going down the tubes.

Re: The new Super League is going down the tubes.

Would this include the Gopher fans you hang out with on a semi-regular basis and have been just as ****ed off about all of this (BTHC as well as BHHC) as you have? I understand your anger, but don't start just randomly going off on people who are actually on your side.
Yeah, I'm really going to hit my friends.
Yes, they are just as ****ed about it as I am, there's no reason for me to be mad at them.

Re: The new Super League is going down the tubes.

I wonder who gets in now if Notre Dame does join the Super 8....

I think this may change Notre Dame's plans if they were going to join the new league. I doubt ND will join the Big 10 in hockey, since the Big 10 will push for them in all sports. The new league or Hockey East is a safe play for ND and would be hockey only. The problem with the Hockey East, is the travel issues as its a bus league with everything so close, except for Orono or UVM, which are still a bus drive away.

ND's options are basically, join Hockey East, take on increased travel costs, and unfavorable home schedule (Thurs-Friday games most likely).
Join the new league, being the 7th team, with the 8th member in the air. Also increased travel costs.
Stay in the CCHA.

They could go independant. We all know how much Notre Dame has a hard on for being independant.

Most Gopher fans are in the same place that you and I are, so there's no real reason to lump us in with the Badger, Sioux, and Pioneer fans who are cheerleading all of this horse****. We didn't want this, we didn't ask for this, and we'll never truly accept it.

(Apologies to the seemingly select few Badger, Sioux, and Pioneer fans who AREN'T cheerleading all of this horse****.)

Honestly, the Gophers **** me off the least out of any of them, except for maybe UMD and UNO (they'd have been stupid to turn the offer down). Because, yeah, they were forced to make this move, and I've only seen a handful of asshat Gopher fans that like the move.

I'd posit that any Gopher fan who supports the B1G isn't truly a Gopher hockey fan.

Re: The new Super League is going down the tubes.

OH I'm sorry, let's say tomorrow Ohio State, Michigan, Nebraska, Iowa, Michigan State, and Penn State decided they didn't like the way things were going and decided to break away from the Big Ten and create their own conference and left your school in the dust how would you feel? I for one need to vent because this is complete bull****. It all started with the B1G Mistake and then DU and UND deciding they needed Miami more than SCSU, MSUM, and MTU. Miami would be no different than SCSU and MSUM if it had been in the WCHA all those years. The reasoning behind DU and UND making these decisions is just absurd. I place the blame squarely on North Dakota because without them this Super 8 doesn't happen. DU may have wanted it, but without North Dakota, that conference would never have gotten any traction. I don't see what this accomplishes other than hurting SCSU, MSUM, BSU, MTU and UAA...all who have invested plenty into trying to keep up with the "big boys."

Again, just don't see what it helps to try and take it out on us in this forum.

One of the truly great things about this forum is that we get in each other's faces and rip on each other's teams, but we also get together and have a beer. We are able to ask for advice when visiting each other's cities or towns. Why project your anger at me or anyone else on here who would gladly help you out if you were here and needed something.

Several years ago when we were planning a trip to the Keeweenaw, I posted in your thread for ideas of what to do, see and eat. Got wonderful suggestions and it made our trip better than it would have been.

I get the anger. I get ripping on each other and maybe even genuinely disliking some posters, some are certainly proceeding on this like a bull in a china shop. But I don't get trying to rip apart an online community over it or lumping all of us into one group of enemies. It's actually a very immature response.

The VAST majority of us are on record as not wanting these changes, including the BTHC.

Re: The new Super League is going down the tubes.

**** off.

You really need to chill out. Go rent the "Star Wars" films and listen to the little green dude:
"Anger, fear, aggression. The dark side are they. Once you start down the dark path, forever will it dominate your destiny." - Yoda

You're angry. You're scared. You've been taken out of your quiet little comfort zone of knowing how things will be turning out every year before the year even starts. Things do change and it is scary. But when anger, fear, and aggression ... well, re-read what the litttle, green guy said.

You don't think there's caution and concern in the minds of the people at UND, DU, CC, UNO, UMD, and MoOH right now too? The worlds were rocked when a guy gave PSU $80+ million. They could have cowered up or they could respond. They manned up and responded.

The next Badger hockey fan that I encounter who likes this will be the first.

That said, what you are starting to see is us accepting it and moving on. What else can we do? We've had months to get over the shock. Gotta make the best of it.

Never seen the movie. I don't like sci fi.

You've had months and can accept it because you're not being left behind. Michigan Tech is being left behind and that basically happen this week. Give me a few months to vent at the Asshats on this board on the "winning" side. My friend and former roommate is what he is :P Me, I'm just ****ed at why Faison thinks this is a good idea, without him and UND...the WCHA doesn't fall apart.

I don't get this at all. Why all the fear of the Big 10? UMD is the nat'l champion. UND was ranked #1 last season. WI and Minn have been on a downhill slide for several years. The WCHA remained the strongest conference in the country up until next week. Why the blind panic response of killing off all the little guys? "Manned up and responded"??? to what, exactly? How is PSU hockey such a threat to anyone?

Re: The new Super League is going down the tubes.

The issue here is money. The Big Ten Network is providing huge revenues to those schools. If the other schools that are powers want to remain powers they have to start creating new ways to produce revenues. They need to create a product that will be able to generate those revenues. That product is a conference with media potential.

Your comment reminds me of a story getting local play. A group of half a dozen claiming to be “sovereign citizens” that had caching a machine gun, silenced pistols, grenades, and 10,000 rounds of ammo was nabbed in March. They had put on a white board an outline of their plan to kidnap a State judge and trooper on whom they had been conducting surveillance and start shooting if the they met any resistance. Two of them also plotted the killing of a Federal Judge.

The hoops local gun nutz are inventing as justification for these loons are so similar. Throw the women and kids out of the lifeboat, they’ll just want some of the water.

How does the subtraction of the 5 worst teams in the conference increase "media potential"? I don't think Miami is the savior of the other 5. It it was, why not just add Miami to the old WCHA???

Re: The new Super League is going down the tubes.

The media potential (meaning revenues from media) is based on the spread of the potenial audience (media markets). You don't gain markets by keeping all of the Minnesota schools but they still get a split of the revenues.

In this scenario the "footprint" is the same size, but the split has just gone from say 10-12 ways to say 6-8 ways.

It's all about the Benjamins. Jim Delany can explain it to you. He started it.

But hardly anyone in colorado cares about DU or CC, same goes for Miami in Ohio, UMD in Minnesota, or UNO in Nebraska...not to mention the fact that Nebraska, Minnesota and Ohio aren't exactly full of high end markets that can't get enough of DU, CC, Miami(OH), UNO, and UMD. DU fans have said multiple times that no one cares about their team unless they are playing UW or Minnesota so why should VS carry their games if no one cares?
