The new Super League is going down the tubes.

Re: The new Super League is going down the tubes.

While I'm going to miss the WCHA, here's a thought (and one I hope hasn't been aired previously, as I'm too lazy to read a thousand posts):

I think the emergence of two new conferences could create the same type of buzz that the NCAA bounceyball tourney does: More Cinderella stories, more David vs. Goliath showdowns, fewer at-large bids and more excitement for the conference tournaments. And, with TV money now becoming more prevalent and the NHL gaining momentum in California, I wouldn't be surprised to see more schools--especially out west--look long and hard at launching hockey programs.

I think so many things and teams have gone down the tubes, that the tubes are full.

Nobody has any money so I doubt any schools will be adding hockey any time soon unless they have a billionaire donor giving 80 million.

Pssh.

All you need is

A) Billionaire alumnus
2) who feels like plonking down 80-100 million dollars on athletics
D) and went to USC and for some insane reason would rather create a men's and women's hockey team instead of essentially being a part-owner in the basketball or football team for a few decades

How hard can that be to replicate? Piece of Cake. I can't wait for the ACC hockey league when FSU and Clemson alumni pick hockey over football and Duke, UNC, and NC State choose hockey over basketball. And forget baseball, you know, that more popular sport that they get 6-8,000 attendance for now. I'm sure they'd rather jump all over a sport where they'd have to travel 1,000 miles for any kind of recruiting base. Boston College is going to be ****ed when their Pairwise takes a beating from playing all those ****ty southern teams.

Or that. :D Where's a good place to eat within a couple miles of the Holiday Inn Express?

That RJ's American Grill near the truck stop is very good. Howie's downtown is a sports bar, but they do a great lunch and have good scenery. Going west on Division, past Waite Park, there's a Renaissance Restaurant that has great food and great selection. Also out that way is Anton's Fish and Whiskey, right along the Sauk River very good, huge popovers with honey butter. And of course the usual array of chains. A place I haven't eaten is a Japanese sushi and steak place on 2nd st. south. If you go towards downtown from the HI Express, you just keep going until you see Kohl's, it's across the street. There's a Texas Roadhouse near there, too.

Thanks! I may be spending up to 2 weeks there.

Really? I ate there a few times and I thought it was horrible.

I have always liked Burger Time in Waite Park. Good joint to eat outside on a nice evening. Vals on the east side of town is worth a try as well. These are not nice sit down places to eat. Just good burger joints.

If you like thin crust pizza, House of Pizza down town is tough to beat.
