The NCHC: Just be glad its NaCHo League

As a Lake Superior Stater, I'm glad St Cloud back doored the rest of what was left of the WCHA. It was going to be St Cloud (we're committed, we're staying), Bemidji, Mankato, Tech, Northern and Anchorage until Notre Dame told the NCHC they weren't worthy. Then the NCHC invited St Cloud, whom they previously had no interest in. And because St Cloud followed Gasparini to the promised North Dakota party, that left the WCHA with 5 teams and now it found room for LSSU, whom it previously had no interest in, Ferris, Fairbanks, Bowling Green and had a spot left for Huntsville. The "NEW" WCHA wasn't put together because it's a beautiful business arrangement. It was the only option.

I agree that is how it happened. The BIG Ten didn't care about the sport and split, but the rest of college hockey made things work. What makes me laugh is his school didn't care about your school until they needed them..... Funny how people forget that stuff. That whole process was about every school looking out for themselves. I am not saying that was a good thing, but it what was going on.

Re: The NCHC: Just be glad its NaCHo League

The WCHA. turned out to be one great party this year.
All three of the conference tourney had great hockey. Only one game in the Big 10 wasn't a 1 goal game and three of five went OT. The NCHC provided some great hockey and a couple upsets (Thanks you by the way for playing a consolation game and keeping Michigan out of the NCAA!) and the WCHA tourney had some outstanding hockey as well. On the ice, the future looks good for all three leagues. Off the ice, I'm not so sure.

Re: The NCHC: Just be glad its NaCHo League

Elaborate on the off the ice?
Financially. I think St Cloud is in a good spot. I think UNO sees little effect. Duluth likely has a decent increase in travel costs, with 2 more flights and neither subsidized at all, as was the case with Anchorage. Miami and Western Michigan had huge increases in their travel expenses going from one nearly completely subsidized flight to Fairbanks to shelling out for flights to Denver, CC, North Dakota and Duluth at the lease and two day bussers to Omaha and St Cloud.

You're right tommyboy. It was a ridiculous time for all involved. Best of luck to the Huskies in the NCAA. Great for your fans that they can go to the XCel where our teams had a he77uva NCAA opener a few years back.

Re: The NCHC: Just be glad its NaCHo League

Which teams and/or leagues?

In addition to the previous post, being so spread with a minimum of 3 fly teams and a couple more second day bussers, it's not good for the new WCHA at all. Attendance was down across the board, except maybe for Minnesota state, as well.

Re: The NCHC: Just be glad its NaCHo League

As far as resentment, yes. I do not like all the change. But my resentment is at the administrators who made a lot of changes that didn't need to be made. The players, fans and, in most cases, the current coaches had little to do with it. The only barn in the NCHC I haven't been to is at CC. And all of the other 7 have terrific passionate fans who get out and give their all cheering on their programs. And, as usual in sports, the fans came last in all of these moves. All of the teams have coaches who are a credit to the game and players who bust their butts night in and night out. Best of luck to all the teams in the tourney.

And then St. Cloud won the NCHC and was a popcorn fart away from being the only NCHC team in the NCAAs. *slow clap*

To be fair, once they got swept by Miami there was no chance of them being the only NCHC team in the NCAAs, so I wouldn't classify that as being a popcorn fart away. They were 4 victories away.

This is exactly correct.

You're the most bitter bear of all the butt hurt WCHA Fans. We get it you're mad.
I think that this might qualify as butt-hurt... Or that's what I gather from reading this...

Western and SCSU completed the NCHC nicely. Apparently, outgoing WCHA commish Bruce McLeod was on the radio with Tim Hennesy during the UND game against Wisconsin last night and McLeod said there would be more movement, yet again.

Sounds like BGSU is still butt hurt from not getting in the NCHC and is floating trial balloons out there. I heard some of the complaints about Miami and Western suffering from travel. I thought that was odd, since most Western school have to fly and take long bus rides. I have a hard time believing that MU and WMU would leave a great conference to be in a conference that would be less prolific. Who are they going to get to join them? They're division I in all of the sports like most in the NCHC except C.C. and UMD.

The schools had to do what's best for their bottom line.

Re: The NCHC: Just be glad its NaCHo League

How many home non-conference games did the BHHC play against the B!G Mistake this past season?

Re: The NCHC: Just be glad its NaCHo League

Feeling a little extra energy since your team extended their year by one weekend this year? Get back in the cellar honey boo boo.
So that's zero then (it's actually 2)? That whole "National" brand worked out well. How many home games does the BHHC have against the B!G Mistake next season? Didn't the league form because certain schools knew they'd get better teams in their rink than the crappy WCHA bottom feeders? Hows that working out? Let's see shall we?

Denver had mighty Cansius ... Niagara ... Merrimack at home instead of UAA, Bemidji, MTU or Mankato. WHAT? Denver only had SIX non-conference games this season? They lost two home games that they played at home every year for the last 20 years?

St. Cloud had Bemidji and Union instead of UAA, Bemidji, MTU and/or Mankato but smartly used their banked extra non-conference games to travel to Colgate or Alabama-Huntsville. Wow ... impressive 4 home non-conference games.

North Dakota had VErmont, Bemidji (the BHHC teams sure love them) and St. Larry ... quite the upgrade from UAA, MTU and Mankato ... right? They used their banked non-conference extra home dates to play 2 of their FOUR EXHIBITION games.

UMD sorta got a game against a team that's almost like a B!G school ... they hosted Notre Dame twice at home and played MTU twice there as well. Of course with only a THIRTY-FOUR game schedule they couldn't get any more dates. They did get to go to the DQ Brazier Cup and actually play a B!G team and former league-mate Mankato.

UNO used it's non-conference games to play Bentley, Cornell, NMU and was the only BHHC team to host a B!G team when mighty Michigan went to Omaha which was part of a legacy arrangement.

Yeah ... that whole "like-minded" thing is becoming clear now.
