Re: The NCHC: Just be glad its NaCHo League

Man the hate is getting old. It is almost becoming comical. People will find the smallest thing to make a huge deal and complain.
sounds about the same as what the NCHC teams did, find the smallest thing to make a huge deal and use it as a lame excuse to abandon other teams.

Re: The NCHC: Just be glad its NaCHo League

Agreed. Pretty much every big-time conference in college football has rivalry matchups to ensure that those games get played every season...I wonder if the SEC and B1G suffer from travel budget concerns?
I saw the rivalry designation in the DU/SC thread. I was shocked at first but thinking through it I get it. 7 other teams X 4 games is 28 games per year. Doesn't leave much room for non-conf games. SCSU and UMD also have Minnesota on the schedule and UND will soon.

Good decision and good matchups. UND loses out on this because the "rivalry" will need to be manufactured.

Obligatory shot: If the Nacho conference is the greatest conference in the history of hockey why do they want to play teams outside that conference rather than in it? ;)

Have fun watching all the teams in your sh^tty league drop hockey! It's really the only thing worth paying attention to the WCHA for.

So you're doing a 28-game schedule? I thought I heard that it was going to be 24...

But yeah, if it's 28, that means 6 NC games. Ouch.

I don't think this is going to be a problem on our end in any way, shape, or form. That situation is also helped out by who our head coach currently is.

I'm reminded of William Hurt's line in the movie "Broadcast News", directed at Holly Hunter during the movie. "What do you do when your real life exceeds your dreams?"

Let's see, we get invited to be a charter member of what is going to be one of, if not THE premiere college hockey conference in America, and, while we are at it, we are designated the "rival" of the most desirable opponent in the conference, in terms of fannies in seats in the entire conference, and get a guaranteed 4 games year with them.

All while having very little hockey legacy or history of success ourselves, having been around for a grand total of 16 seasons, most of them in CCHA. UNO fans have a lot different perspective on all this than the "old guard" teams and their fans do, trust me. We are pretty much in nirvana around here. As an added benefit we are also getting our own brand new on-campus arena, too, that will be at least the 2nd biggest in the conference.

It's tough for us to be P.O'ed about the loss of tradition and history when there is almost none involved for us.

This UNO fan is on Cloud Nine. My only regret is that I would have maybe preferred Mankato over SCSU since we have a lot of history with them having played them every year of our existence, the only such team there is for us. And, they are the closest program to us. We've only played SCSU 14 times, all time. That said, I think we'd have been paired with them, then, instead of UND, if it were Mankato instead of SCSU. This is only a minor quibble to me, though.

Apparently you missed the memo...the NCHC will have 24 conference games. As for UND, our true rivalry will be with Denver. FWIW, there is no series that I enjoy more than UND-Denver. I could see UND-UNO becoming something similar to what UND-SCSU is currently. The main team outside the conference that I would like to see North Dakota play is Minnesota, but I don't see it happening while Lucia is coach. I also would like to see Bemidji stay on the schedule (which they are on at least in the next couple years).

The first time you guys ever came down here to play us in 2010 I have seldom seen UNO fan as amped up as they were for that series. We're probably going to be more "into it" at the beginning, for sure, maybe always. I know from talking to UND fans that weekend it was an easy, inexpensive trip that they enjoyed making, almost to a man.

My wife, to me, during that weekend while walking down the street by the arena: "Is every North Dakota fan drunk?

There are two things to do in North Dakota: drink, and f*. And if you've seen the average North Dakota female.....well.......

Holy misinterpretation Batman!

Of course I missed the memo because I haven't been paying attention to the NCHC. I wasn't taking a shot at the scheduling but saying I agreed that playing all teams every year didn't make sense. Key phrases like "doesn't leave room," and "Good decision," should have made this obvious.

Re: The NCHC: Just be glad its NaCHo League

What's funny (and really so so many things are hilarious) is that the BHHC teams with 10 non-conference games are going to likely be forced into making many more east coast roadtrips than most of those teams have in the past.

As long as we don't have to go to Alaska.

Sorry Robin,

It was a joke going back to when the NCHC got ripped for putting out a press release about the schools that would be in the conference. :p:D:D

Re: The NCHC: Just be glad its NaCHo League

As long as we don't have to go to Alaska.

Going to Alaska ... GFK to MSP to ANC or FBX --- 9.5hrs to 12.5hrs
Going to Orono ... GFK to MSP to (PHL or DTW or LGA) to Bangor then bus to Orono --- 7.5hrs to 12hrs

Yeah ... big huge difference there in travel times. Of course, what you'll retort with is how awful a place Alaska is compared to a fine destination like Orono or Schenectady or Rochester or New Jersey or Ithaca or Durham etc etc etc ...

This is the hilarious stuff. So anyway, say something else to make me laugh.

No, you just won't be in the threads.

Ah, looks like it went over my head. Maybe the NCHC could schedule prime time on ESPN for any future announcements for me. ;)

Hopefully the details of the UMN/UND future schedule will be worked out soon. I don't think anyone really wants these 2 teams to only meet in the post-season. Especially Virg Foss who seems to be in a full lather.

Yeah, he was definitely one of the biggest proponents of keeping it going. Personally, I'd like to see a tournament with Minnesota, Wisconsin, North Dakota and a 4th team. Obviously, that isn't going to happen with the Minnesota Classic and Mariucci Classic, but I thought it was a good way to keep the rivalries together without having it eat up a ton of games.

Holy Cross one year, Yale the alternating year? ;):p

So, similar travel time, less of a hit on the Pairwise. Sounds like a good deal to me.
