Re: The NCHC: Just be glad its NaCHo League

Here's the link.

It only makes sense to have a third place game. Even if not particularily well attended, having a fourth game will help league revenue.
Under the new format for the WCHA, I actually miss the third place game. I maybe one of a few people that actually do though.

So Denver is joining the Summit League, where fellow future NCHC member UNO plays as well. I wouldn't be surprised in the least if SCSU and UMD make the move within the next 10 years to join fellow former NCC members NDSU, SDSU, UNO, and USD.

UMD has the facilities, basketball could play at Amsoil. They question would be what would happen to their football programs. I don't see UMD cutting it as attendance has been for some games in the realm of FCS teams. SCSU has teetered on cutting their program.

You've read my mind. When reading about this in the Omaha World Herald today I was thinking along these same lines. I doubt it would take 10 years, though. If it happens at all, my bet is sooner rather than later.

A while back the president of NDSU said the whole NCC conference should go to division one sports together. That didn't happen but who knows.

Perhaps if Whiskey Joe would've shared the money NDSU was making with other NCC schools instead of embezzling it, the whole NCC would've moved up.

I would be very surprised to see UMD make that jump.

I just don't see it either at UMD. I don't know what attendance is like for the other schools above in things like mens and womens bball but I don't see Duluth supporting it enough. The problem with Duluth is that basically all of the alumni leave Duluth right after graduation and live in the Twin Cities area. For the most part Duluth doesn't have a lot to offer in terms of large businesses and wealthy residents to boost numbers for non hockey/football sports. Unless there is some major booster wanting to make a splash it probably won't happen.

Yeah I don't see UMD joining the Summit League either, they're not really big enough to be Division I in all sports, it would be nice to watch UND whoop UMD's *** in football again though. :)

Student popluation wise they are about where UND was in 2000.

I'm just glad UND joined the Summite League so they had an excuse to finally drop their nickname.

They would really need to add more seating to their football stadium and have more fans in basketball and football. I just don't see it occurring in this generation. I'm happy, and I'm sure the Athletic Department, is more than comfortable being DII in everything but hockey.

Actually, UND is in the Big Sky Conference... NDSU is in the Summit League.

Ah. I cannot keep those conferences straight.

The MSHL is changing the timing of their girls and boys state basketball conferences because of the NCHC tournament. This article also notes that the NCHC Tournament at Target Center is a 5 year contract. Which I am not sure if that was reported or not.

Biddy, stop trolling Goon. He has his hemorrhoids he has to deal with, he doesn't need you trolling him too.
You're absoluetly right. I apologize to goon and his hemorrhoids. My thoughts and prayers are with him and his 'roids.

Re: The NCHC: Just be glad its NaCHo League

Bruce Ciskie said on the radio last night that UMD-SCSU will be scheduled rivals in the NCHC. DU-CC, UNO-UND, and WMU and Mia are the obvious other ones.

So what you're saying is all these teams won't be in your barn every year? I thought this was one of the reasons the NCHC formed.

I think that went out the window when the NCHC announced a 24 game conference schedule.

http://www.uscho.com/2012/02/09/nchc-announces-24-game-conference-schedule-for-2013-14/

And since they've gone with a "rivalry" pairing, so much for the quote of: "While the eight teams will not be playing all conference opponents the same number of times in a season, Scherr indicated that the athletic directors and coaches were comfortable that the schedule will balance out over the course of several years."

So much for balancing out.

Could there be travel budget concerns already in the NCHC wonderland?!?

No.

Man the hate is getting old. It is almost becoming comical. People will find the smallest thing to make a huge deal and complain.

Agreed. Pretty much every big-time conference in college football has rivalry matchups to ensure that those games get played every season...I wonder if the SEC and B1G suffer from travel budget concerns?
