Holy Nerdgasm...

Re: The Movie Thread: New, Rented, Whatever....I don't care

Not me man.

Don't care for comic book movies but can understand why those who do would be chubbin' it right now.

I'll see Guardians and maybe the X-men & Batman movies, but that's it.

Re: The Movie Thread: New, Rented, Whatever....I don't care

...and Disney/Marvel will have the first African-American lead film with Black Panther. (not big deal for me but some fans dig it)
Does Hancock not count as a black super hero comic book character even though Hancock was a super hero, Will Smith is still black, and the movie was adapted from a comic book?

About half of them interest me. I'm more into the Star Wars and Star Trek movies.

Re: The Movie Thread: New, Rented, Whatever....I don't care

Given Fox, WB/DC, and Sony's propensity to screw the pooch I'll mainly be concentrating my viewing habits on Disney/Marvel who seemed to have figured it all out. For example, I expect Wonder Woman to be an unmitigated disaster and Capt. Marvel (Carol Danvers) to be spectacular.

Hancock was not a comic book it was a completely original script.

Re: The Movie Thread: New, Rented, Whatever....I don't care

So Disney/Marvel today made their announcement of upcoming movies, which is on the heels of last weeks WB/DC slate of movies announced which of course folllows up Fox and Sony and what they have announced coming up so far. (all Marvel characters but licensed) Here is the list:

2015 -
May 1: Avengers: Age of Ultron (Disney/Marvel)
July 17: Ant-Man (Disney/Marvel)
August 7: Fantastic Four (Fox)

2016 -
February 12: Deadpool (Fox)
March 25: Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice (WB/DC)
May 6: Captain America: Civil War (Disney/Marvel)
May 27: X-Men: Apocalypse (Fox)
August 5: Suicide Squad (WB/DC)
November 4: Doctor Strange (Disney/Marvel)
November 11: Sinister Six (Sony)

2017 -
March 3: Untitled Wolverine sequel (Fox)
May 5: Guardians of the Galaxy 2 (Disney/Marvel)
June 23: Wonder Woman (WB/DC)
July 14: Fantastic Four 2 (Fox)
July 28: Thor: Ragnarok (Disney/Marvel)
November 3: Black Panther (Disney/Marvel)
November 17: Justice League, Part 1 (WB/DC)

2018 -
March 23: The Flash (WB/DC)
May: Avengers: Infinity War, Part 2 (Disney/Marvel)
July 6: Captain Marvel (Disney/Marvel)
July 13: Yet to be revealed Marvel Comics film from Fox
July 27: Aquaman (WB/DC)
November 2: Inhumans (Disney/Marvel)
Yet to be announced date: Amazing Spider-Man 3 (Sony)

2019 -
April 5: Shazam (WB/DC)
May: Avengers: Infinity War, Part 2 (Disney/Marvel)
June 14: Justice League, Part 2 (WB/DC)

2020 -
April 3: Cyborg (WB/DC)
June 19: Green Lantern (WB/DC)

No known dates yet but confirmed: Superman solo and Batman solo movie

Now on the comic forums of course it is rapture and splendor and lots of infighting because this is like Yankees/Red Sox for some of them. Other things of note are that WB/DC will have the first female lead movie (Wonder Woman) and Disney/Marvel will have the first African-American lead film with Black Panther. (not big deal for me but some fans dig it) Disney/Marvel will have their female lead film in 2018 with Captain Marvel (Carol Danvers) and WB/Disney will have Cyborg as their African American lead film in 2020. Benedict Cumberbatch signed to be Dr. Strange, and a litany of huge names are up for Suicide Squad. Tom Hardy is up for X-Men Apocalypse as Apocalypse, The Rock is playing Black Adam in Shazam and Jason Mamoa is playing Aquaman.

That is a lot of friggin movies and more could come knowing the studios involved. The smart thing is all the studios spread them out so as not to cannibalize. (from March to November) All of them are banking on money overseas though. When you add in movies like Hunger Games, Star Wars, The Harry Potter Expanded Universe, the Lego Movie sequel and Lego Batman Film, Star Treks Sequel, and stuff like Pan...the realm of Sci-Fi fantasy might just be at critical mass  If movies didnt cost so much to go to I might never be home ;)

YES PLEASE! :o

Although, I will say that I am looking over my shoulder looking for signs of the bubble bursting... What form things will take by 2019 is anybody's guess... But it's something I have been enjoying since 2010 and will continue to do so for the time being... I am curious how this is registering for the general public... Marvel movies seem to be generating about $ .5 Billion (or should I list it as $500 million) with each film... Will this continue? Comic book movies have been taking 2-3 spots in the top 15 movies (domestic gross).... It's something that I'm wary of.... I've gone from someone who would go to 2-3 movies/year, and always on a whim, to someone who is going to Thursday night showings 2-3 times/year with any other comic movies being seen in the 1st week... I'm not the only one... But how much of the general public if going to stick around?

No worries. The lion's share is from tweens and teens, and more come off the conveyor belt every year. The ComicCon adults are going to see every one as well for the same reason I watch every Cornell hockey game, even the ones I know are gonna suck. They're lifers.

Re: The Movie Thread: New, Rented, Whatever....I don't care

Yeah, plus the Asia Market is more important than the US these days anyways. China is eating this stuff up.

Dates will change of course as will plans. Having Justice League 2 and Avengers 4 within 5 weeks of each other is insane. My guess is WB/DC moves to July or August depending on how things play out.

Also of note: the director of Fury (Ayers) is signed to make Suicide Squad, Chadwick Bozeman is Black Panther, Ezra Miller is the Flash and more is coming down the pike.

Re: The Movie Thread: New, Rented, Whatever....I don't care

I see that they are re-releasing Young Frankenstein on Blu-ray in honor of its 40th anniversary.

For those who haven't seen it, it is really funny and worth a watch. Some great double-entendres.

**** right!

Re: The Movie Thread: New, Rented, Whatever....I don't care

Blah blah blah. No interest, whatsoever. Comic books and their movies do nothing for me because I'm not 15 years old.

Re: The Movie Thread: New, Rented, Whatever....I don't care

I think it was Slappy who recommended "Locke."

He's right. Watch it.

Ambitious to have a movie be a one-character show....but dam it's good. Highly recommend. Hardy is excellent in it.

Re: The Movie Thread: New, Rented, Whatever....I don't care

Heh I forgot about Spawn...good call. (I am relaying what the comic fans are saying, and some in the media)

In general, I think it's a great thing. Kick-A* main character was a guy, but frankly, I really think Hit Girl was the real star. She brought everything together. One of the only comic movies I've seen outside of Superman/Batman. Might be the only (unaware of any others; I didn't know KA was a comic movie until I was specifically told so).

Re: The Movie Thread: New, Rented, Whatever....I don't care

I think Wonder Woman and later Captain Marvel coming out are bigger deals. Female lead action films are rare and these are long running franchises. Wonder Woman is a known name as well.

Re: The Movie Thread: New, Rented, Whatever....I don't care

I look forward to Wonder Woman, anything Justice League, Avengers, Fantastic Four, X-Men, Wolverine as well as Thor. Flash, Shazam, Lantern and Aquaman (is Vinny Chase playing the lead?) are intriguing, while some such as Ant-Man, Doctor Strange and Cyborg do nothing for me on paper although I will probably at least give them a chance in rental.

Batman vs. Superman imho has high potential for being done wrong and to be honest I've never understood how in light of how the characters are perceived by a comic book novice such as myself that it could ever be a 'realistic' fight even in comic book land, but we shall see.

And if the lead is built like Lynda Carter was and wears a revealing costume it'll be epic. :D
