Choked up?

When Lloyd and Harry reconnect on the side of the road in Dumb & Dumber.

The ball dropping in the hole in Caddyshack.

When the dudes found their car.

To be more serious - I don't remember if I actually did or not, but wouldn't be surprised if there was a tear or two shed during Murder in the First (one of my favorite movies that no one else seems to have seen or remember) Rudy, Hotel Rwanda, Field of Dreams, Bambi or Old Yeller.

Re: The Movie Thread: New, Rented, Whatever....I don't care

Old Yeller. You are inhuman if you don't cry at the end of that.

Re: The Movie Thread: New, Rented, Whatever....I don't care

Men In Tights does NOT hold up over time. At all. Spaceballs, given its base material, kind of does.

I think the reason for that is simply because Star Wars had more staying power than Robin Hood. It is easier to make the connections. But that aside, even thought I like it, Men in Tights can't hold up to Spaceballs.

"When will then be now?"
"Soon."

I remember really liking Men In Tights when it came out and I was 10, but watching it recently it just has weird pacing and it's not as good. Still has some decent jokes, but it won't be in the hall of fame.

Titanic didn't make any of you guys cry, right? Me either. *kicks dirt*

Re: The Movie Thread: New, Rented, Whatever....I don't care

come on now. It's a moving picture show, nothing more.

It was also the three-hour obligatory bane of every teenage boy's dating life when that movie was released.

Re: The Movie Thread: New, Rented, Whatever....I don't care

I absolutely love the Rifftrax for it. Makes re-watching all three hours once every other year bearable.

Never saw it. The only movie that was girly that was on a date for was "My Best Friend's Wedding." And I hate to admit it, but it wasn't absolutely putrid.

Marley and Me. Yes of course the dog is eventually going to die at the end of the movie, and yes the whole movie is purely set up to get you to cry, but dammit you just can't not cry. (Double negative intended.)

Anyone who has experienced a pet dying (especially a dog), and doesn't cry at that movie, needs to have their humanity checked, as they are most certainly an alien from some other emotionless planet.

Miracle. After beating the Russians, when Coach Brooks is alone, down in the arena hallway...all quiet...pacing back and forth...[raises arms, fists clenched]..."Yes!...Yes!" ****ed if I ain't welling up just a bit rethinking that scene.

The beginning of Up caught me way off guard the first time I saw it and I'll admit to shedding a tear at that one as well.

Other than that, pretty much agree with others already mentioned.

Saw Primal Fear again last night.

Ed Norton's debut is epic...and Gere is at the top of his game.

Re: The Movie Thread: New, Rented, Whatever....I don't care

Saw The Perfect Game on Netflix a few nights ago. It's about the 1957 LLWS champion from Monterrey, MX. Incredible story, and I'm surprised I didn't know about it before. Did some research after the movie and it turns out a lot of the stuff I thought they made up was actually true, which then made the stuff they did make up seem really weird (like switching St. Louis Browns to the Cardinals). Overall the movie was pretty meh, I'd give it 2 stars at best. The story itself deserved much better production than it got.

I'd say it's par with the Miracle on Ice, but since it was pre 70's it seems to have gotten tossed to the wayside like the Miracle on Grass and the Forgotten Miracle.

These were kids in poverty who got dropped off at the US border and walked the remaining 10 miles to the field, with just their uniforms and a change of underwear. They didn't even believe in themselves, they planned on just losing the first game. But instead of going 0-1, they went 13-0.

Watching Napoleon Dynamite again. I remember watching it in college and thinking it was funny. Tonight, I'm holding out hope that it still is.

Snowpiercer.

Good concept and very visually interesting, but a hot mess.

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.

A lot to like, a fair amount not to like. The CGI ape parkour is amazing.

Re: The Movie Thread: New, Rented, Whatever....I don't care

I loved Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. It was everything it was supposed to be (and more) and it did it better than most movies out there.

I have yet to see ANY of the Ape movies. And I do mean any. Maybe that'll be some Movie Sunday, and I watch all of them. Just marathon it.
