The Movie Thread: New, Rented, Whatever....I don't care

Re: The Movie Thread: New, Rented, Whatever....I don't care

Spaceballs is a pretty good parody, though it's something any decent writer/director could have done.

Men in Tights is execrable.

Men In Tights does NOT hold up over time. At all. Spaceballs, given its base material, kind of does.

Men in Tights had two good scenes that still hold up. The "Men in Tights" song, and the castle feast ("Unlike some Robin Hoods, I can speak with an English accent" - because fark you Kevin Costner).

The rest is tripe.

I was going to say it had one good line, but that line was actually from another movie.

Red Dragon. I was struck by how different it is from the TV show since I believe the first two seasons were drawn quite a bit from the book, but nonetheless not sure why it took me so long to see it. Obviously not as good as SOTL, but much better than Hannibal and recommendation worthy.

I'll have to check that out. It's one of those movies I always wanted to see, but kept forgetting about.

Lone Survivor:

I don't have the words. I just don't. Amazing.

Re: The Movie Thread: New, Rented, Whatever....I don't care

On our to-see list. We watched Uncommon Valor again last night after seeing it the night it was released.

I mentioned elsewhere, once I composed myself....if you don't get choked up watching Lone Survivor, get the f* outta my country. Not kidding.

I got choked up reading the book, just as I did watching Private Ryan.

I didn't choke up on Saving...

The only four movies I have ever choked up on...
Miracle, Lone Survivor, The Program (when Lattimer and the coach faced off at the end, shuddup), and Forrest Gump ("I know what love is," again, shuddup).

Miracle, Shawshank (Brooks), many parts of Band of Brothers, kind of during Apollo 13 (during and after the blackout), Wall-E (the ending scenes...as stated above, shuddup) and there might be another one or two I'm not thinking of.

I've heard that about Wall E. It's on my list.

For movies that got me choked up...that term might not be accurate for Shindler's List, that was practically all out bawling. Miracle does it, Band of Brothers, and a few others I can't think of.

The end of Field of Dreams.

The end of Field of Dreams.

99% of the scenes people cry at, including pretty much every one in this thread, are mawkish and cynical. But I will not trust a man who doesn't cry at the end of Field of Dreams.

Marley and Me. Yes of course the dog is eventually going to die at the end of the movie, and yes the whole movie is purely set up to get you to cry, but dammit you just can't not cry. (Double negative intended.)

I forget the comedian, but he was asking about the sequel to that movie, based upon box office receipts alone.
