Someone having a sentimental attachment to something from their youth doesn't automatically make a reboot of that something great.

See the second Star Wars trilogy for reference.


I did in fact grow up watching the Godzilla movies (44 now) - as often as they were on, usually Saturday afternoons. I also watched Ultra Man, Spectra Man, King Kong and another show that I can't remember the title to but it was a father a mother and a son who could turn themselves into rockets and would battle oversized monsters.

Godzilla was my favorite though. My mom still has some of my drawings. I used to use my plastic dinosaurs (allosaurus was Godzilla) to have my own monster battles. Even had the 2 foot tall plastic Godzilla.


All that said, this movie left me flat just like most of these do.

A lot of (admittedly, cool) action that looks great on screen combined with improbable human reactions and a lack of character development.

I read some articles about this before it came out and they were intentionally trying to play it straight. That's fine, but then the acting shouldn't seem cheesy, since we're not going for campy.

Again, goodish movie. Not great.

And again, just my opinion.

Yeah, we have those too. They're called "Emagine Theaters" around here. I think for another $2, you get a wider leather seat and a concierge. I found the whole thing to be a little silly, especially considering that their regular seats are actually an upgrade from standard theater seats, but some people do pay for it.

I feel like the seat and more importantly, the comfort that I had last night was well worth the $13 that I paid for it.

There is a theater near me called iPic where the last two rows are slightly more expensive but you get wait staff, good sized menu, an over stuffed recliner, an airline sized pillow, and a blanket. My wife loves going there to see movies.

The theater I went to see Neighbors at had the recliners too. Unfortunately I'm a little too tall for those seats so my feet were hanging off the edge and hitting the chair in front of me. First time going to a theater like that, and since I was visiting a friend on the other side of the state it'll probably be awhile before I do it again because I don't think any theaters around me have recliners and whatnot. Plus I don't make it out to the theater too often. I think that was the first time since Ted or Lincoln.

I know for sure I wouldn't be able to go to any places with blankets and pillows, because I would just end up paying 13 dollars to take a nap.

The second star wars trilogy didn't play homage to the first very well. That's why most hate it. I think this Godzilla paid homage to the original, unlike the '98 version which did not. Your actually making my point for me by bringing Star Wars into it. It's the same argument I made about the Green Goblin and was vilified for it.

If the movie had believable human reactions and character development I wouldn't have liked it as much. That's what the '98 version tried to do and failed.

Saw Munich again over the weekend and enjoyed it as much as the first time.

Saw Pineapple Express as well again and disliked as much as the first. I gave this one a second look because I've read comments that reference positively that past few weeks and I have to say I was right - those people are crocked. ;)

Can't imagine why you care. Like what you like. Take from things what you take.

**** everyone else and their opinions. I always do.


I learned as a kid to never, EVER worry what people think about the music I like. I also apply this to movies and TV shows.

Not your bag? Fine by me.


Conversely, I try very hard to not judge others for their tastes (in entertainment). You like Faith Hill and she moves you? Good for you! You hate Phish and I like them a lot. No worries, to each their own.


Long and short is that we're all moved by different things and the perceived quality of these things is incidental to the movement.


I enjoyed the heck out of Battleship. Go figure and **** all of you! :p

What a wreck of a movie. The icing is rather nice on this cookie-cutter cliched movie, but that's about it. It doesn't deserve the starpower involved, that's for sure. It's basically a glorified Lifetime movie. And the plot holes...I overlook them most of the time, because it's a movie, but here's a spoiler:

They excavate a property to look for a body, but neglect to inspect the vehicle parked in front of the property, which is over a plank covering a monstrous hole in the street! WTeFF? I mean, seriously.

My response was about the same. I really do think it could have been much better, if it was done right, and a few things in the script changed.

91% from the pro critics and 95% viewer approval. I was very surprised, plan on seeing it tomorrow or Tuesday.

Not even Hugh Jackman or the need to include so many nods to the original trilogy can ruin it.

That reunion scene between Magneto and Mystique was certainly worth all the build up.

It's playing at that ultra screen with the leather recliners. Probably gonna take the boy as he liked the X-men movies and I actually really liked them too. Hands down my favorite comic book movies.

I went and saw Belle last night. It tells the story of Dido Elizabeth Belle, the illegitimate daughter of a black slave and an English Admiral. She's raised up as a gentlewoman in the house of the Chief Lord Justice of England, who eventually rules on several legal cases that lead to the abolition of Slavery in the British Empire. I would recommend seeing it if you can get the chance. I don't think its 100 historically accurate, but how many movies are anyways?
