The Michigan OT Goal

Re: The Michigan OT Goal

Well, it was sort of a *****kicking by the Sioux, we just happened to win the game anyway. I give our guys credit for hanging on and playing well enough to win. I'm hopeful that we can keep the puck out of our zone a little more versus UMD, that was too stressful!

Re: The Michigan OT Goal

This one is for you UMICH or billmich - out of your opponents played this year, where would you rank UNO on your list of quality teams played? UMICH - I saw on another thread that you stated UND, next to Miami, was one of the best teams you played this year. Where would UNO fall? We played a strong Friday night at Yost, got demolished on Saturday, and then went to OT in the playoffs. Interested where you would place us....

I think that billmich's assessment of uno's ranking of teams that Michigan has played this year is fairly accurate. However, I'd put uno ahead of CC. I really wasn't very impressed with CC, either time we beat them this year. Granted, I was nervous due to the situation in the NCAA's but that was about it. The other time we played both teams were missing big guns (Holiday Tournaments ys know) but I'm still, and will forever be, under the opion that we owe them after the 2005 Regional Final game. It still hurts, I was there and still don't believe it.

uno has a good team but we've seen other flashes in the pan. However, I actually think that you guys are legit (now don't let it go to your head).

my listings of teams were in NO particular order, those 6 were just a cut above the rest on our schedule....

Sorry for the confusion, I never thought that they were in any order. I just don't think CC was very good, quality yes but not outstanding. I'd put CC on the same level as Western Michigan and Ferris State. So I guess that I should have said I agree with 5 of your 6 teams. Take out CC and I totally agree with you.

their demolishion of bc in the regionals got my attention, and i thank them for doing some of the dirty work

I can see why you hold that view but remember sparty split with us this year. Beating a good team once, or twice, doesn't mean that you are good.

Re: The Michigan OT Goal

UMICH - agreed...only time will tell if this success is here to stay. Every team has ups and downs, U!N!O! has tended to have an up followed by a few down years. I suppose some of that is life in the game of hockey, but more consistency from year to year will be the key. That's what those other five teams on your list have that U!N!O! does not...

Re: The Michigan OT Goal

Jeez Louise.

This thread STILL hasn't died?

O.K., I'll pile on. The best moment of the entire title game (besides the fact that UMD won), was the goal that Michigan scored tonight that was disallowed.

What goes around comes around.

Justice was served. If it sounds like I am bitter it's because I am. Not apologizing.

I appreciate the fact that you admit you are bitter. I am sure you enjoyed the hell out of the no goal call (which by the way, i agreed with, the puck was under the goalie, the ref was in position, and the puck did look like it was covered). I am sure you cheered like all get out when UMD scored to win it (which by the way was a well deserved win, they earned the win). You just fell into (and my apologies to Sparties out there, this discussion has nothing to do with you) the Spartan mantra that as long as Michigan doesn't win i am happy, and they get more joy out of watching Michigan lose than anything.

And justice was not served, the right call was made then, and, IMO, the right call was made tonite, nothing to do with "justice"

Okay, truthfully, I thought UM got jobbed tonight, if you want me to bare my soul.

The whistle clearly blew after the puck went in. Everybody at the party at my house tonight spent a lot of time trying to figure out why the goal was disallowed. Looked like a goal to us.

We all just ascribed it to divine intervention.

Now that i appreciate fully. Am i wrong (and i am a die hard Mich fan) to think that that was the correct call, it looked like Michigan was whacking away at the goalies pads to knock the puck in.

And, just like in the UNO - UM game, who knows how things turn out if that is counted as a goal (or not counted as a goal in our game)

Um, UMD won because they were the better team. Way to make it about you though.

Re: The Michigan OT Goal

Hey Dip-****, looks like you came on here to specifically claim that you are over it when obviously you are not. Then you go off on a tangent and try to rationalize your insulting behavior. And you wonder why you are a Husker-reject!
spoken like a true spartan reject.

The bolded part of your rant is hardly limited to Sparty. ;)

Re: The Michigan OT Goal

Yea, I admit, Rick isn't that bad. He is actually the only uno fan I can tolerate. It's unfortunate that I must refer to him as a "Husker-reject" by association. Oh well...

How can you blame when when when when the rest of the fan-base is what it is.
Actually I think Rick is a Creighton Alum, far from a school reject even though I don't like him.

Re: The Michigan OT Goal

This. Michigan played a spotty, tentative, sloppy game. Got lost in the moment with some downright petulancy, and did exactly what they weren't supposed to do--put UMD on the power play. Even after killing, what, about 35 of 'em, still not a way to win. Love these kids, and I'd love that group of 9 seniors to get the win that escaped them in Denver 3 years ago, and then nipped in the bud by a terrible call against Miami last year, but this wasn't a team expected to do anything like what they did. And I can't help but be proud of that.

I don't particularly care about a ref's intent to blow anything, and it always seems to crop up in the most controversial of times, but that's the rule. We live by it and die by it, and it happened early enough that it can't really be indicative of anything as far as the end result is concerned. Rules committee has something to look at, that's for sure, but what do I know?

UMD was the better team tonight, no if's, and's, or but's. Kids deserved the title, just as long as they go dye their hair back to match the carpets tomorrow. Some seriously terrible hair under those lids.

correct call in the finals. the puck was under the goalie for an eternity, and an "audio review" is much murkier than a video review.

I didn't like the call, but it was "correct"

why yes you are still bitter. Get over it. You lost by a legit goal.

Someone please nuke this thread.

I don't like the call we received during the finals because I think the intent to blow the whistle is perhaps the worst rule in sports. However, it is what it is. No point in crying over spilled milk like some UNO fans.
