The Medical Thread: We're experts on everything else; why not?

Not surprised at all, follow the oil money - lots of steak and lamb getting eaten. Probably lots of secret wine cellars, too. Wealthy Muslims often flout haram when in the mood.

I would be obese if I lived in PR - fried pork and mofongo every day. Ceviche would be my vegetable.

Regarding PR, I only had mofongo once, and it was great. Tostones were blander than bland yet both tostones and mofongo are both made from plantains. Mofongo must be flavored somehow, and I wonder if there’s a cultural standard or if it’s up to each chef.

Mofongo is a tasty dish, no doubt. But it’s probably more the Rice & Beans that’s the contributing factor… the Puerto Rican equivalent dish to French Fries.

And damn, did I loves me some Rice & Beans when I was there!! :0)

That's a great point. Which reminds me that we spent a few days on Culebra as well and found a small restaurant run by an abuelita - you ordered at the window and either sat outside or took it to go. One night she made pigeon peas as a side choice and that was the best take on rice & beans that we ate the entire trip. Could easily get fat on that, too.

Doctors in France didn't treat and isolate the hantavirus positive patient from the ship when she sought treatment for symptoms, because once again, the doctors tried to pin a woman's issues on anxiety.

it's so ridiculous, and though I have zero respect for any anti-vaxxers, im beginning to see how the first few wellness influencers may have started. way too many women are dismissed and symptoms blamed on "anxiety" (often times from women docs, too) whereas men will be taken seriously

Which I find more crazy having had to take care of a husband with a "man cold". Men can be such babies when they are sick.

Luckily for me, when I had the worst gastroenteritis I recall having over this weekend, the husband stepped up and took care of our kid and did laundry while I was useless. But hey, I lost 11 pounds in 4 days!

i remember having part of my cervix removed with nothing but some freaking ibuprofrin. too bad I wasn't getting a vasectomy as I'd have been given copious amounts of pain pills

I had a blood clot in both lungs at the same time and I wasn't a baby about it. I get it though. If you can get away with being a baby it is probably in your best interest.

When I’m sick, I want to be left alone. That’s when my wife wants me to entertain our daughter, and then calls me lazy for not getting more done. Meanwhile, she’s sick and just sleeps all day. Pfft. 😒

so, I'd heard that generic stimulants for ADHD treatment can leave a lot to be desired. Problem is, reading people's anecdotes online makes it impossible to draw clinical conclusions. Are they simply desensitized to the dosage and need more over time?

But now more docs seem to be getting on board with the fact that many, many people who switch from brand to generic are having issues, and apparently the formulations for some of these generics is not as close as one thinks, there's not always a lot of regulation, and they use different inactive ingredients which may sound harmless, but can affect the uptake/absorption.

so i take generic vyvanse (never tried the real stuff). for a year now, I'd thought it was working. Then Costco gave me a manufactuer I've never had, and oh my god, has it been a rough month. literally feel nothing. googled the maker, and what do you know, huge recall last year for not having the actual doses in the capsules.

found an old pill from last bottle and took it - bam, affective again. too bad Im stuck with these useless sugar pills rest of month.

I just found this thread existed. Apparently having the creator of the thread on ignore completely blocks the entire thread.
