The MCHA Thread

Re: The MCHA Thread

Guesses on Player of the Year?

No one really stuck out enough to me ... wide open field IMO.

The MCHA selections over the years have been somewhat surprising.
They seem to spread the awards around and it's not always the statistical leaders that are rewarded.

Connor Toomey in 2011-12 started every game and deserves consideration.......but he won it last year and I've never seen back to back winners.

COTY ...Adrian/Ron Fogarty deserves consideration. He replaced 17 players this season and lead the program to it's 5th consecutive Conference title.......in as many years.

Re: The MCHA Thread

My guess on player of the year is the same guess I had last year: MSOE's Jordan Keizer. There's others that merit consideration, such as Chris Stansik, Zach Graham, and the two Northland boys who were near the top of the scoring race for most of the year, Wright and McIntosh.

I think Toomey gets it, but I would vote for the elder Keizer. 21 goals in 27 games is pretty impressive. I have no knocks on Stansik or Graham.

Re: The MCHA Thread

I would have voted for Keizer last year, too, and we saw how well that worked out.

I think part of the reason Toomey got it last year was because his regular season performance was head and shoulders above the other goaltenders. This year that is not quite the case, as Shackell's GAA and SV% are right there with Toomey's, and I do acknowledge that Toomey went the distance for MSOE, while Shackell has split time with Hamby for the most part. When you look at Keizer, he's at or near the top of nearly every scoring category in the league, more than anyone else in the league.

It's going to be interesting come Friday night.

So is Keizer a better forward than Toomey a goalie?

Re: The MCHA Thread

I think so. At least from the admittedly limited action I've seen from MSOE the past two years.

I was thinking Toomey may be the better of the two, but that Keizer has had the better season. Either way, both are very good players.

Re: The MCHA Thread

I wish I could make it but the $4 gas is a little painful from Wisconsin.

Also with Toomey and Kaiser, it depends on who would get nominated would be my guess...

Re: The MCHA Thread

It's $3.85 here. Two weeks ago it was $3.45. Each of the last two Monday mornings it has jumped $.20/gallon.

I think once it gets to $5.50 or so I may have to look at saying goodbye to the truck and get something different.

They will have to bury me in my Denali b4 I give it up

Re: The MCHA Thread

Eh, I've had trucks for 15 years. I've had a few of them. It's not that big of a deal to me.

Re: The MCHA Thread

It went to $3.999 here today.

MCHA Coach of the Year: Ron Fogarty, Adrian
MCHA Player of the Year: Zach Graham, Adrian

Re: The MCHA Thread

Yes.

EDIT: I was not surprised that Fogarty received Coach of the Year. I was surprised to see Graham win Player of the Year, as I had already stated that I thought that award was going to Keizer. *shrug*

Re: The MCHA Thread

Hey congrats to both Coach Fogarty and Zac Graham. Replacing 17 players and delivering a 5th straight conf title says a lot about what Coach Fogarty brings to the rink. Zac G is leader on & off the ice.

Re: The MCHA Thread

I caught that overtime period on the AC video link ... crazy.
Toomey makes 16 saves in regulation and 10 in OT?!?
