The List for the 2018-19 Season: Episode 1

Re: The List for the 2018-19 Season: Episode 1

Anti-List:
Healthy, perfect daughter born on Monday
Easy (relatively) labor for mamma
Lots of family in town to help

List:
My mom, our 18-month-old, and I coming down with a stomach bug
My mom and her dad having to leave today due to inaccurate guessing at the arrival window
Only remaining family to help with sick toddler and husband is her sister, who is 20 weeks pregnant and still having terrible morning sickness.

We are quite the crew right now....

Congrats!

Reliance on electricity is on the List. Power went out Friday night. It was brutally hot here this weekend. Not good for an infant, my dog, or the adults.
Anti-list Friends that let us bring a newborn and a dog to stay at their place during the day Saturday. Power was restored by Saturday night....

...temporarily. It went out again Sunday night (List). New estimated restoration...Thursday. Drove 1+ hours to my mother-in-law's this morning (who has been taking care of baby at our house when we're at work). She has power. Dropped off baby and dog. Then I drove 1.5 hours to work. All of this on 3 hours of sleep. Today will be interesting.

Electricity and air conditioning are on the anti-list. I miss them so much when I don't have them.

This is the kind of thing that makes me want to get a generator.

This is the kind of thing that makes me want to get a generator.

We got one at the old house - mainly for my elderly in laws. We only put about 1/2 the house on the generator due to cost. Furnace but not A/C because you can run fans to keep cool, but heat in the winter is important. Fridges went on, stove didn't. etc.

Right after we installed it, PEPCO undertook a reliability upgrade and the power rarely went out.

Lack of physical activity right now is on The List.

I know when I work out, I feel better and I eat better. I don't rely so much on peanut butter pretzels and wine.

Stupid clearinghouse sites that manage work requirements are on the List.

If I could interact with a human it would have taken me about 15 min. Nope. They have an automated site that manages everything. Site loads every window so slowly I can get up, go pee and come back before it finishes.
Start out with a page overlaying the log in- new, streamlined site that will make my experience better! Makes me re-enter all the info I had previously entered into the new streamlined version. Each bit of info is a new window-
name -> click -> Pause for loading
phone # -> click
address -> click -> Pause for loading
date of birth -> click -> Pause for loading-> click
[4-5 more windows for info ] -> Pause for loading for each one
Yay, I am finally in!- no. Not really. Now I have entered all that I get booted out, it welcomes me again and asks me to log in to start my streamlined experience.
Now I can access the messages telling me what I need to do. slooooooowly. You can't delete anything until you open it.-> click -> Pause for loading-> click -> Pause for loading.
FInally find the page that lets me click on the link to do the task it emailed me about=my background check
askes me to enter all the info I just did, window by window again.
Then it flips to a new section and makes me do all that again. This is not confirming, for some reason it needs things for a different part of an internal form.
page pops up telling me they are emailing me with instructions to proceed
click link in email to proceed. It makes me log in again fill in more windows with the same basic info, another email with a link to a form to print. You have to download form, page is not prinable. It is blank. Nothing is prefilled with the info they have asked me for how many times?
Print it out and then fill in, by hand, all the info again.
Had thought I was clever last yr and saved the blank form but they changed it slightly and the cover page has an order # in it that wasn't on last yrs.

Who the fvck coded this fiasco and how did they ever get out of basic coding?

I still have other forms and things I need to do but I can only do so much before I either want to strangle someone or I run out of time.
