Re: "The Lake Show" - LSSU Laker Hockey

I agree this team needs and deserves more fans to come to the games and cheer them on.

Monardo does look great this year he must have made good use of his off season. McParland needs to be ready to fire that puck down close to the goal.

I hope the Lakers come out hustling tonight just like last night.

Re: "The Lake Show" - LSSU Laker Hockey

I was out of town for a couple of days and didn't get home until almost half the game was over. I caught part of the broadcast and while it was great to have the Lakers get 6 goals, giving up 6 is too many. From what little I did catch, I didn't hear Bill C or Mike talk about any soft goals. On the other hand, it sounded like the type of game that, with one or two key saves, BMW could have won it for the Lakers. I'm sure the UMD fans have similar thoughts about their goalie. All in all not a bad result, but it would have been great to come out of it with a W. It was definitely encouraging to have the offense score 6 goals.

I'd like to see one of the other goalies get the start tonight, but Roque may go with BMW again to try and build his confidence after last night. I would definitely be surprised if one or both of the other goalies don't get a start by the completion of the Colgate series in a couple of weeks.

Coming into the weekend I was thinking the same thing in regards to the Tech game but I'm a little uneasy at the thought of sending BMW down to South Bend with his last performance being 6 goals allowed, regardless of the circumstances... I'd like to see him play tonight to try and find a better groove and then obviously have him play both next weekend...as far as the Colgate series goes I wouldn't be opposed to having BMW sit out both nights and have Ravn and KK each get a game in just to see what we have to work with..It would be a good time for BMW to rest up before facing our toughest stretch of the season ( @ Miami, NMU, Ferris, @ Michigan)...As was said before if we can keep our head above water and make it to the Denver Cup with 4-5 wins in the CCHA I will be extremely pleased as our schedule softens up from then on...

Re: "The Lake Show" - LSSU Laker Hockey

3000 fans and if you want to keep them coming back..you sure as hell don't entertain them with a game the lakers played against tech.......

Re: "The Lake Show" - LSSU Laker Hockey

I guess the game summary would be: Offensively uninspiring, defensively mistake prone.

Re: "The Lake Show" - LSSU Laker Hockey

From a Laker fan's perspective, tonight's game was boring and frustrating to watch.....which was a total contrast from last night's game. The LSSU-Duluth game was exciting from start to finish - a lot more free flowing, crisper passing, a little chipiness for good measure, and the scoring was back-and-forth. Tech may have had something to do with it, but the Lakers looked slower tonight.

Re: "The Lake Show" - LSSU Laker Hockey

I was at the game last night and I swear the Lakers could have played with just about any college team. The one thing I was disappointed in was the crowd. Now tonight I wasn't at the game but almost 3000 people were and the Lakers layed a total egg against Tech. Maybe the pollsters are wrong but Tech is supposedly one of the weaker teams in the country and UMD one of the better. I guess I just wish that Roques teams were a little bit more on the consistent side so that the team could start generating some real momentum and buzz around the area.

Re: "The Lake Show" - LSSU Laker Hockey

Can anybody report on Roque's comments, including on goaltending ?
If not, what was said here and there ?

I don't know or care what Jimbos comments were but how bout some comments from Boot Jim Roque; Laker goaltending is weak, the defenceman are weaker yet and the forwards couldn't find the back of the net if their life depended on it. Roque and his traveling Gong Show don't know how to recruit. With the players Roque brings in the Lakers would be better served by going D-3. Either that or bring in a coach that can actually coach!

Bill, a pretty darn close summary. The Lakers just looked unprepared for the game and Tech looks way better then a lower standings type of team. When the offense did start to get going their goalie stood tall, very few times did he not get help from his skaters. If you were to watch these two games in person you wouldn't think the Lakers were the same team from Friday to Saturday.

This weekend kinda reminds me of two or three years ago when they would play a tough game or weekend against one of the elite teams then the next weekend play uninspired against one of the lower tier teams. As if they were playing down to their opponets talent.
I hope that isn't the kind of season we are in store for and i mean no disrespect to Tech they played hard but as was mentioned if the Lakers play the way they played on friday they could play with just about any team.

I would like to see the coaches keep the same lineup after such an impressive game like friday nights. That seemed to happen in the past with this regime and it's quite frustrating.

I didn't hear any post-game comments. His comments after the first period were that they needed to move their feet more (standing around too much) and the first Tech goal was from a sharp angle (soft).

You would think his comments, at least to his players, after losing by four goals at home to a team that was 5-30 last season and predicted to finish dead last would have been a little more than just sugarcoating.

Why does this team seem to be unprepared and out coached in most games? I mean Michigan Tech for crying out loud. Nothing against the Huskies but they should be able to waltz in here and defeat "The Lake Show" by four goals without even a whimper in response. How a team comes out on Friday and looks pretty darn good and then lays an egg on Saturday like that is beyond me.

At some point you have to point fingers at the coaching staff? Don't you?

Re: "The Lake Show" - LSSU Laker Hockey

Roque doesn't seem to have the ability to keep his team playing at the top of their game. Every week it becomes a mystery to what type of game the players are up for and that just wears fans out. I would think a coach would be livid at some point if his team was just showing up and not performing much beyond that.

The Lakers have scored 12 goals in 3 games. They are not struggling offensively. They are struggling defensively.

To be fair to Jim, his comments were made after twenty minutes of play. It would be difficult for him to comment on a sixty minute game after twenty minutes.

Last night was all about Tech getting the first goal. It changed the entire dynamic of the game.

Re: "The Lake Show" - LSSU Laker Hockey

I have attended all 3 home games so far, and will continue to attend the home games and a couple on the road. To me the story has been which team we will see this season; there has been different team on the ice each game. There was tremendous improvement from the exhibition game to Friday night. Friday's was one of the most exciting games I have seen, even though they got the short end of the officiating. Offensively we saw what they are capable of and it could be a lot of fun this season, scoring 4, 6 (should have been 7) & 2 is pretty good. However their defense and goal tending needs a lot of work; giving up 5, 6 & 6 goals is going to make it very difficult on the offense to win games. Four and 6 goals should win you games. But it was still fun to see the good crowds and the excitement of the weekend. GO BLUE!

One of the games was an exhibition so we can't count that now can we. Even though they do all count the same I would say at least half the goals the Lakers scored Friday night were soft. I was shocked at how weak UMD looked in net. Then on Saturday they scored two whole goals against what is supposedly one of the weaker teams in the country. Point being I don't think this team is quite the offensive juggernaut you think they are. They are weak in all areas but they are weakest in the area behind the bench. Roque and his Gong Show consistently get out coached. I and the silent majority of Soo based Laker fans are getting quite sick of this same old show. It's time to give old Jimbo da boot out da door!

Re: "The Lake Show" - LSSU Laker Hockey

First, I would like to thank the fans at Taffy Able and the Soo in general. The politeness from (most) of our fellow Yoopers was refreshing. It is too bad that we don't get to play the Lakers more often, especially with Tech talking about bringing in AIC for a non-conference series (BLECH!) next season. How you can not try and schedule a team that is 5 hours away is beyond me, especially when there are only 2 other schools that are closer (NMU, UMD). So yeah, thank you.

I thought it was creative/questionable that LSSU started changing the goaltender/extra attacker on the fly with 10 minutes left. I guess if you are going to try something new, might as well be during the non-conference season. It was just odd to look over and see the empty net with 9 minutes left, even in a 3 goal game.

Another thing to remember is that MTU's non-freshmen had a 5 game stretch in Germany/Austria back in early August. That experience, especially when installing a new system on offense and the power-play, is invaluable in the first month of the season when you are playing against teams that just picked it up in earnest 2 weeks ago. (It is interesting to note that our freshmen are making big contributions at this point, however).

Tech is not as bad as you make us out to be. And I know that Lake State isn't as bad as they looked last night.

Good luck in South Bend!

That is nothing new. Frank Anzalone started this and Roque continued this when he took over. He does in in conference games also.

Anyone know why Kapalka started? Was it to give him experience or was Roque unhappy with Beamer's play Friday? He was a little shaky, but I'm sure he was nervous and a part of the growing pains.

Your fans are very fun to watch behind the bench they did a great job. I tend to be loud at the games and the visiting teams fans usualy gawk because of it and then i have to ask my wife if were in the library or at a hockey game.
We were sitting behind four mid age Tech fans and they took it all in stride and rooted hard for their side it was quite nice except they had way more to cheer for. Maybe next time ;)

Good luck to Tech the remainder of the season.
