Re: "The Lake Show" - LSSU Laker Hockey

Well one truth is that Jimbo couldn't coach or recruit his way out of a wet paper bag, lol. Yet the majority of the dopes on here seem perfectly content with that. What ever happened to wanting your team to win. This team will never be able to move forward with the Gong Show that is in place now. No matter how much money they put into the Norris Center.

The past five seasons seem to justify what you are saying in terms of results and wins on the ice.

The season begins tomorrow and my question is what place do you see the Lakers finishing this season and is their a certain type of season or place they need to finish, before they look another direction in terms of coaching and the programs future?

Good questions Mr. Serum. I see the Lakers finishing no higher than 10th. Rouque and his traveling Gong Show just can't get it done. And the players they bring in are D-III types. Which is where the Lakers will be playing in a few years if they don't make a coaching change. Can anybody say bring on Adrian!

Re: "The Lake Show" - LSSU Laker Hockey

Well lets hope the Lakers got that out of their system last week and give a better showing tonight. I'm looking forward to seeing Campbell and Lain play in person finally.

Anchors do you think Hobbins will be in the lineup tonight ?

Re: "The Lake Show" - LSSU Laker Hockey

Seems the Lakers are looking to Traverse City to recruit players from and looking at the other CCHA teams, only Western MI has a Traverse City player and this year he is a senior with a total of 3 goals in his college career. The last time I ran a check on Taverse City players in college hockey, division 3 was the only other place I found players from Traverse City at.

I wonder if having them as a pipeline to Lake State makes much sense. Aren't they already looking at other players from there for next season such as their goalie ?

I would lean towards yes, he usually doesn't get sat until he plays poorly a few games in a row and since we have a fresh slate heading into the season I don't see him sitting...I will be interested to see where in the lineup he is...He played forward in the exhibition game last week but that was without many of our freshman playing...I said in my preseason outlook that I didn't see how he could concieveably find a spot on forward although it looks as though he will be playing there to start the season at least...where he plays, who he plays with, and how much he plays are all things I will be interested to see tonight...Also interested to see if the line of Acton-Schofield-Monardo that was together last week in the exhibition stays together...

Re: "The Lake Show" - LSSU Laker Hockey

Nice hard earned 6-6 tie tonight. Lakers definitely played better tonight, but the defense still seems lost. BMW looked shaky at times too. Let's hope our boys can get a W against Tech tomorrow.

Re: "The Lake Show" - LSSU Laker Hockey

One of the more entertaining games at Taffy Abel in a long, long time. The Lakers looked very good overall. Yeah, they gave up six goals, but I can guarantee you with that Connolly, Connolly, Fontaine line more often than not the Bulldogs are going to score a lot of goals in a lot of games throughout the year.

I'm not sure I could blame many goals on BMW. Fontaine and Mike Connolly have pro-style shots, absolute snipers. And let's remember, the Lakers tied the #8 team in the country, and the #3 team in what is undoubtedly the best conference in the nation, the WCHA.

Very gutsy and solid by the Lakers tonight.

Re: "The Lake Show" - LSSU Laker Hockey

Hard fought tie by the Lakers tonight, we showed a lot of character sticking with a very good UMD team. Beamer didn't have his best game, I expect a better performance out of him out of him tommorrow...The power play showed up in a big way, now if we could see more of that on a consistent basis! What more can you say about Rick Schofield? 4 points tonight to kick off what looks to be a very prolific senior campaign...I thought Roque did a very nice job juggling the lines midway thru the game when we looked to be showing some signs of complacency (sp?) I was pleased with the showings of the freshmen that played (Perrault, Campbell, Lain, Radke, Jean)..To my surprise (and delight) Hobbins was not in the lineup tonight although I was very surprised to see that Pobur was..It strikes me as interesting that we brought in 2 freshmen D men (Sternberg and Bruneteau) that were sat in favor of a D man in Pobur who has only been able to crack the lineup in a handful of games thru his first 2 seasons..has Pobur improved that much? I wasn't overly impressed with him tonight..It doesn't make too much sense to me if we brought in 2 freshmen if they arent going to be able to turn out better than a 2 year reserve player? I will be interested to see how that situation unfolds as the season progresses. Regardless of the fact that Tech beat NMU tonight I expect a win tommorow vs. MTU ( I happen to know that NMU was probably taking MTU a little lightly). To further my point that preseason rankings mean nothing 3 different sources picked the Lakers in 3 different positions...USCHO picked us dead last, the media and coaches picked us 9th and Inside College Hockey picked us 6th (and gave a nice shout-out to Schofield as the most "unsung player" in the CCHA)...what did evryone else think??

Re: "The Lake Show" - LSSU Laker Hockey

Gutsy effort by the Lakers tonight. Wish more people would come out to the game but the ones that were their were pretty vocal. Schofield obviously looks very good out their along with Monardo. BMW was shaky I thought. Campbell didn't look all that spectacular, Jean however looked alright and he is pretty fast for a big guy. All in all a real good effort by the Lakers tonight. If they continue to play this well they should hold their own in the CCHA and if they do than MORE PEOPLE NEED TO COME WATCH THEM!

Re: "The Lake Show" - LSSU Laker Hockey

I thought the big line looks great. The hole team looked real good against a fast talented team. I do not think we will see Hobbins against Tech. Beemer got beat at least two times when he didn't see the puck so i think he should be fine. The most impressed freshman i think was Lain but they all looked good.

Re: "The Lake Show" - LSSU Laker Hockey

I would agree with most of the assessment so far of last night's game. The Lakers played hard for 65 minutes with few moments where they let up. Didn't see that in most games last season. They were hitting more than usual, they seemed to be skating well and had some effective creativity, especially in the offensive zone. They had some defensive lapses and goaltending was a little worse than shaky in my opinion, but overall tying a top-10 ranked team at home was a very good start.

Players I was especially impressed with was the top Schofield line. I was also very impressed with Monardo and his play, especially away from the puck. The freshman not a whole lot yet but it was their first game. If the Lakers put this kind of effort on a game-to-game basis they will win more games than they lost and have a shot at sixth or seventh place. We have seen them look good in stretches before, only to sink in the standings.

It is early but tonight is a big game against Michigan Tech, a team that took out Northern in Marquette last night. A win would give these guys a bunch of confidence heading down to South Bend next weekend. Unlike last year, the first half of the schedule is brutal. If these guys can tread water and survive until November, the schedule lightens up a bit come December and January.

One game tis not make a season, but the Lakers showed me a lot last night and lets hope it is a sign of things to come. Good crowd but more people need to show up and make some noise because that seems to inspire this team a bit. Well done Lake State keep it up!

Hey Truth Squad? Where you at sister?
