LA banning IUDs and naming them a felony. Tennessee trying to ban contraception to unmarried people. Arizona wanting to ban condoms.

just lock us up in rape houses I guess. We have no other purpose
 
How the Democrats failed us and why we need a true Left party.

Start from the bottom, take over the Democratic party, and save democracy and the world. America cannot survive with a Far Right and a Center Right party. We need a true Left.
 
The thing I still don't get about America after almost 60 years: other countries have ignorant vicious cowards, too. But they don't give them the government.

Can we all agree that fascists punch well above their weight? That their electoral power, election after election, is well above their raw numbers?

Well, how did they do that? It's not magic. Duplicate that in the force for good.

France came close. Obviously there's Russia, the AfD is a major player in Germany, Vox in Spain, and there's nationalist party control in Hungary, Austria and Switzerland too.

Your primary point is right however. The problem with "the left" is there isn't a single unifying issue they can agree to behind on a par with the fascists.

The right is all about, "owing the libs". They have zero platform of any substance but hatred and fear-mongering. How do we get the left to unify long enough to put them in their place?

Maybe we could start being about "owning the fasc." I know there aren't as many petty small minded fucks among us, but there certainly are plenty. It's a basic human impulse; go to any game thread on reddit.

Start meming about voting strictly for conservative tears. I'll bet a lot of 20-something frat and finance dipsh-ts would go for that. Good way to meet liberal women -- you know, the type of women who bathe and have jobs and who use birth control so one mistake isn't a life sentence.

We need to compete in the crass Pepe field. We are much funnier and much darker than conservafucks. Have you seen the difference between Right and Left satire? We can win that game going away.

Spite should not be neglected as the Modus Operandi for many voters. It's the new market inefficiency. Exploit it.

And as oddly provencial as this sounds, Lincoln and western Nebraska Catholics are a different breed. The bishop of those congregations is normally a far right nut job, and they tend to be far more fundamentalist than your typical Catholic. The Omaha arch diocese tends to be far more moderate, both because there are a ton of Jebbies thanks to Creighton and because the average parishioner tends to be more cultural Catholic than a true believer. The city is probably 60% Catholic (and amongst the white population probably 75%), but that only shows on St. Patty's day, Christmas, and Easter.

Edit: and Fridays during Lent when fish frys become a hopping spot.

I exaggerate but the Church definitely has the power behind the throne in the city. My wife and I have a long running only semi-joke about the Omaha Catholic mafia controlling the city, and how our best friend in law school was set to take it over some day before he moved away. The biggest Catholic events in town each year are all attended by all political and business leaders.

Best personal example I can give is when I was a 3L applying for judicial clerkships, and I landed an interview with the state District Court in Omaha. Panel interview with maybe 10 judges. They asked where I went to high school. When I said "Omaha North" the 2 black judges went "Oh!" while the white judges went "oh." The correct answer was supposed to be Creighton Prep. Never mind I went to Catholic school K-8 and Creighton for law school.

Apparently St. Louis is known as "the Rome of the West."

I had no idea about any of this. I thought everybody in the Midwest was either sullen Norwegian Lutheran, watered-down chamber of commerce Episcopalian, or Aimee Semple McPherson snake handler.

Probably is a city/country split. KC was an Irish Dem machine during Truman's days, even though everywhere else outside of KC in that area I'd have to assume is "Pope in the Anti-Christ" level of Protestant. (WASP ancestry versus Irish/Italian ancestry probably also a factor, and of course the latter is more likely in the cities.)

I thought the city/country split was more gentle out there -- that the cities were more conservative than on the coasts, and the country still had some rural progressivism left over from last century. Plus there are just a lot more rural people in states with an actual farm population, and the "cities" are, with a few notable exceptions, large towns.

And yet people wonder why so many Catholic youth leave the church as soon as they are able to. I'm sure it has nothing to do with pedo priests, or the church's ridiculously outmoded positions on contraception and homosexuality, or the fucking hypocrites in every congregation showing up for an hour on Sunday to chuck a fifty in the collection basket and then go home to their McMansion to spend the week sinning. You can bet that their daughters never have to worry about squeezing out a kid at 16 once Roe is overturned.
