The Raiders began the decade with three up-and-down seasons, then had their best success in the middle of the decade. Colgate’s only trip to the national tournament in the decade was in 2014 – a 1-0 loss to Ferris State. That season also included one of Colgate’s four trips to the league final four; two semifinal losses in 2011 & 2012, and two final losses in 2014 & 2015. This year Colgate finished 10th in the ECAC, and were then swept by Union in the first round of the playoffs. This was the 4th straight year without a winning record for Colgate, as they finished the year with 10 wins – a year after finishing .500. – drshoen

The Bobcats really began getting national notice in 2012-2013, when they won their first regular season ECAC title, and then went all the way to the NCAA final – losing to in-state and league rival Yale. That season was the first of four straight NCAA tournament bids, including another title game loss in 2015-2016 to North Dakota. In that same four year span, the Bobcats won three regular season titles and their only ECAC tournament title. Quinnipiac had a losing record in 2017-2018 for the first time since 1995-1996, when they were a Division II independent. The Bobcats came back in 2018-2019 and won the regular season title, and made the NCAA tournament. – drshoen

The decade started with a lot of optimism after getting to the national championship game in 2009. It was a tough ending however, as the Redhawks gave up 2 goals in the last minute of the third period and falling in overtime to BU. Miami followed up with a great season in ’09-’10, winning 29 games, the CCHA regular season title and getting to the Frozen Four before falling to eventual champs BC. They had three consecutive 20+ win seasons and won the regular season championship title in the final year of the CCHA in ’12-’13. Life in the NCHC has been challenging, with only one 20+ win season and losing seasons in the last four, which resulted in the firing of long-time coach Enrico Blasi. New coach Chris Bergeron will hope to turn the program around in the upcoming season. – SiouxfaninSeattle

The decade was a very successful one for the Huskies, with only two seasons under .500 and six trips to the NCAA tournament. They won the conference regular season championship in their last year in the WCHA (2012-2013), and won the NCHC regular season championship three times – 2013-2014, 2017-2018 and 2018-2019. The regular season championship in 2012-2013 was the first for the school in division one. SCSU also won the NCHC tournament championship in 2016. The Huskies were the number one overall seed in the ’18 and ’19 NCAA tournament but fell to the number sixteen seed both years. It looks like the program is in good hands in head coach Brett Larson, who guided the team to a 30 win season in his first year behind the bench. After a lengthy search, SLU hired Brent Brekke, long-time assistant coach for his first head coaching job. In the next season they won the regular season, the league tournament, and the NCAA East regional, before losing to Ferris State in the Frozen Four. Union continued to play at a high level. The next year brought another league tournament; then in 2013-14, Union won the regular season, league tournament, and the NCAA tournament (the second straight tournament won by an ECAC team). Clarkson made their first NCAA tournament since 2007-2008. Then in 2018-2019, Clarkson went one game better, beating Cornell in the league tournament final in overtime. Their success resulted in an offer for head coach Scott Sandelin to go to the NHL, but he decided to stay at UMD and was rewarded with a four year contract extension. The decade was a mixed bag for North Dakota. The National Championship in 2016 was the team’s first since 2000, and eighth in program history, but was followed up by two seasons of not making the national tournament, breaking a streak of 15 straight trips to the tournament. Coach Dave Hakstol guided the team to the tournament every season in the 11 years that he was at North Dakota but only made it to the championship game once. He left for the head coach job at Philadelphia in the NHL after the ’14-’15 season. Long-time player/assistant coach Brad Berry was announced as the new head coach the same day as Hakstol left for Philadelphia. Berry started his career on a high note, becoming the first coach to win a D1 championship in his first year. The Pioneers made the national tournament every year in the decade and are riding a 12 year streak of appearances in the national tournament, currently the longest streak in college hockey, and are well positioned for another trip to the tournament this season. The culmination of their success was winning the National Championship in 2017. Head coach Jim Montgomery took advantage of his success with the program and left after the 2017-2018 season for the head coach job with the Dallas Stars. It looks like he left the team in capable hands as first year coach David Carle, the youngest coach in D1 hockey, took the team back to the national tournament. If DU can continue the results of the past decade they stand in good shape to move up a notch in these rankings. – SiouxfaninSeattle

The decade was a mixed bag for North Dakota. The National Championship in 2016 was the team’s first since 2000, and eighth in program history, but was followed up by two seasons of not making the national tournament, breaking a streak of 15 straight trips to the tournament. Coach Dave Hakstol guided the team to the tournament every season in the 11 years that he was at North Dakota but only made it to the championship game once. He left for the head coach job at Philadelphia in the NHL after the ’14-’15 season. Long-time player/assistant coach Brad Berry was announced as the new head coach the same day as Hakstol left for Philadelphia. Berry started his career on a high note, becoming the first coach to win a D1 championship in his first year. The fans are becoming restless after two seasons of mediocrity and the team will need to return to the tournament if they expect to take back the number one spot in these rankings. – SiouxfaninSeattle
