So, let's run it down.

The Dems are proposing expanding Red Flag laws, Gun storage laws, and Background checks.

Red flag laws were supported at the Federal Level by the GOP (sort of).
Background checks always poll out over 80% in America.
Gun storage laws are sorely needed (IMO) and are a safety issue. No one says you can't have a gun but I damn sure say you should prevent your mentally unstable teenager from having access to it.

And the GOP compares this to Nazi Germany. Uh, what?

The Michigan GOP is basically speedrunning the Florida Democrats. Incompetent leadership coupled with dried up funding and whackjob choices for state officerunners.

Why is Kevin McCarthy meeting with Ashli Babbitt's mother?

She got shot during a fucking Insurrection. Cops died during that Insurrection. She's lucky that's all that happened to her.

It's simultaneously horrifying and awesome to watch them melt into a puddle of QAnon spooge while what's left of their voter base (mostly Christofascists and fragile, blue collar white men) just lap it up. At this rate, MI Dems will likely expand their majorities in the state leg in '24 and we could have a D governor for the third cycle in row come '26. That would be a first since the 50s and 60s, when we held gubernatorial elections every 2 years instead of 4.

He may run in 2028, but I don't think he'll be successful. I tend to agree that as a governor currently making headlines, he has strike while the iron is hot. Come 2028 he'll have been out of office for over a year, and some other MAGA candidates could rise up and steal his thunder. Plus, that's another 5 years of Boomers dying off and Gen Z voters coming of age. Barring a 2008 or 1930-level economic collapse, the math only gets worse for Republicans with the current far-right path they are on.

It's shit or get off the pot time for him, and he is young enough to have some options.

He can wait 2024 out, let Trump be the nominee and then, win or lose, Trump is out in 2028. If Biden wins, DeSantis would be running after 8 years of a Democrat in the office, and we do love to wildly swing from one side to another. If Trump wins he'd be term limited out in 2028, and DeSantis could try to ride that wave.

There are so many variables in this that is' really tough to game it out, but Meatball Ron does have some options here. He's also only 44, so waiting until 28 barely gets him into his 50s.

But the fact is, he needs to declare he's in our out. It's ridiculous that he needs to do so this far in advance, but Trump .......
