The Generic Racism Thread 1: Lift Every Voice and Sing

I think every conservative on my socials let me know that Uncle Ben, Aunt Jemima, and Mrs. Butterworth are the only black people they care about.

Don't sleep on Rastus.

I sincerely had no idea that Mrs. Butterworth was supposed to be a black woman until this rebranding wave hit last year. I always thought of her as just some generic grandmother.

Mrs. Butterworth is an edge case. On the one hand, she's never been explicitly tied to the mammy stereotype. On the other hand, she was clearly created (really late, a couple years after Brown v Board) to compete with Aunt Jemima (created 10 years before Plessy v Ferguson), who is as mammy as you can get without actually pulling Scarlet's bustle tighter.

I always assumed she was black because when you buy her she's brown, duh. But then as she gradually loses her substance and soul she turns white. It's like moving right on the political spectrum. When you finish at the far right all there is remaining is empty garbage.

Ditto. At first I thought people were just confusing her with Aunt Jemima.

Unarmed black person is fatally shot by cops.

White conservatives: "Though tragic, he should have complied."

White business owner who refuses to comply with Health Dept. after getting warned several times, then having her license revoked and is subsequently arrested:

White conservatives: "THIS IS FASCISM! YOU VIOLATED HER CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS! HITMER/WITCHMER DID THIS! RABBLE!"

I'm seeing some people claim Marlena emigrated from communist Poland in 1988. If so, then I can't wait for the sort of rhetoric and imagery of informants, secret police, and party files that might bring up if this thing goes to trial.

There was a rally supporting her on Saturday. Protestors parked in neighboring business' lots, stood in the street, and made it so all the surrounding businesses had to shut down early.

Yet no calls to run them over, no federal agents hauling them off in unmarked vans, nothing that was said about the BLM protests in Grand Rapids in June last year. When challenged on this, Republicans are like "well, nothing burned, and the surrounding businesses only lost part of a day, so it's okay."

At this point, fuck all of em, and by that, no one should fuck ANY of them.

If you're white...clearly it is.

Reminds of Louis CK's being white bit:

I love being white. Seriously, I really do. If you're not white, your missing out. 'Cuz this shit is thoroughly good. Let me clear this up by the way: I'm not saying white people are better. I'm saying that BEING white is clearly better. Who could even argue? If it was an option I would re-up every year! 'Oh yeah, I'll take white again. Absolutely.' Here's how great it is to be white: if I would have a time machine I could go to any time and it would be awesome when I get there! That is exclusively a white privilege! Black people can't fuck with time machines!
