The Frozen Four

Re: The Frozen Four

Hockey East national championship. Those in the league are not surprised. Says a lot for the league and very little for the validity of the pair wise selection process. The field of 16 would have been better served with UNH, Vermont and Lowell included. Those additional teams were much better than many of the teams selected.

UNH, Vermont, and Lowell should DEFINITELY NOT have been included. BU had a bit of puck-luck tonight, so they win. The same 2 teams play tomorrow...they lose.

Re: The Frozen Four

Just ended up being a very bad hit just like that interference was...Not an excuse for why ND lost. The issue tonight for North Dakota was the soft goals they gave up hurt them.

Yeah. The 2nd goal felt like a back-breaker, but then we came out flying in the 2nd, got within a goal, hit three posts, and it looked like we were going to tie it up. Then the 3rd goal...another softie...yuck. Of course, the game winner turned out to be the weird 4th goal that just sort of snuck between a bunch of people and went off McIntyre's skate and in. I don't really blame Zane for that one, but it was a goal that when he's on his game, would not have gone in.

To be fair, BU gift-wrapped our second goal...so it's not like all the breaks went against North Dakota. BU played well and took advantage of some of our miscues. My guess is if these two squads played a best of 7 series, it would go the full 7. I felt like these two squads were pretty evenly matched.

Re: The Frozen Four

Yeah, but each time we've lost in the Frozen Four, the team that beat us either won the National Championship, or finished as Runner up. :p:D:D

Still can't beat Maine's mark...
1999: National Champs
2000: Eliminated by North Dakota (National Champs)
2001: Eliminated by Boston College (National Champs)
2002: Eliminated by Minnesota (National Champs)
2004: Eliminated by Denver (National Champs)
2006: Eliminated by Wisconsin (National Champs)
2007: Eliminated by Michigan State (National Champs)
2009: Eliminated by Boston University (National Champs)
2010: Eliminated by Boston College (National Champs)

Eight seasons out of 11 eliminated by the eventual national champs.

2010: Eliminated by Boston College (National Champs)

Eight seasons out of 11 eliminated by the eventual national champs.

Let's see here...

1997: National Champs
1998: Michigan (National Champs)
1999: Boston College (National Semifinalist)
2000: National Champs
2001: Boston College (National Champs)
2003: Ferris State (Regional Finalist)
2004: Denver (National Champs)
2005: Denver (National Champs)
2006: Boston College (National Runner Up)
2007: Boston College (National Runner Up)
2008: Boston College (National Champs)
2009: New Hampshire (Regional Finalist)
2010: Yale (Regional Finalist)
2011: Michigan (National Runner Up)
2012: Minnesota (National Semifinalist)
2013: Yale (National Champs)
2014: Minnesota (National Runner Up)
2015: Boston University (????)

So, in our last 18 trips:
We won title: 2
Lost to Eventual Champs: 6 (7?)
Lost to Eventual Runner-up: 4 (5?)

Not too far off Maine's run of losing :p:D:D

Of course, my original post was a joke. Whenever you lose in the Frozen Four, you are guaranteed to lose to either the eventual champ or runner-up.

Re: The Frozen Four

Nice of North Dakota to finally show up halfway through the 3rd period. did they not know the game was tonight?

Did you watch the 2nd period? Or the first few minutes of the game prior to the first BU Powerplay? Or the majority of the second half of the first period?

Re: The Frozen Four

I thought Omaha was MUCH worse...North Dakota dominated the second and third periods in my mind.

Omaha was a mix of them not showing up, nerves, playing tight, and just getting outclassed by Providence. The Friars really played a strong game.

North Dakota outplayed BU for good chunks of the game, but BU capitalized when it mattered most. BU really put pressure on North Dakota after the first couple of minutes, got the PP, got the early goal, and played very well. Overall, I thought BU had a slight edge in play in the first, North Dakota dominated the second, and the third was pretty even, with North Dakota maybe having an ever so slight edge in play in the second half of the third. I thought it was a fairly even contest considering all 60 minutes.

Re: The Frozen Four

It was a pretty even game overall, as the score suggests. There were dominant stretches for both teams, with UND carrying the play more and more as the game went on, however.

Re: The Frozen Four

Hak doesn't deserve a national championship because he's rude and he has swastikas on his underwear.

ummmmm, 2009 that elimination was in the conference QUARTER FINALS.
so i supposed the NYJ can claim they were eliminated by the 2015 super bowl champs :p

Re: The Frozen Four

GPL Tweeter has a clip from the tv showing, of a female UND fan. I wish I could figure out how to post it here. She is saying (and if this isn't exact, it's DARN close, IMO, reading her lips):

"You got to be f*ing sh*ing me, Providence. F* you, Boston."

That second sentence is perfectly clear. The first sentence is a close guess, if not a correct one.

EDIT: UPDATE: A GPL user has correctly lip-read. She says, "I hope you get f*ing crushed by Providence. F* you, Boston."

Re: The Frozen Four

Can we please just stop hearing about how great the NCHC is? The ECAC has won the last two, now this is an all Hockey East final. Omaha was just downright embarrassing, and to hear them talk, they're "even" with North Dakota and were all hyped up to play them. This isn't the 50s and 60s. The East has caught up. There is ZERO question that BU was BY FAR the more talented team. ND came as advertised...four even lines that they rolled, scrappy, gritty never give up. In a vacuum it's easy to see why you are saying they "outplayed BU for large chunks." But what you don't know, because you haven't seen every BU game, is that this happens to us almost EVERY game. We fall asleep. Do I like it? No. Did I like it tonight? No. But here are the facts: BU has seven losses...least in the country. BU has SIX overtime wins. The reality is, they win the game when they have to, and that may be the cause of some of the complacency...they play in spurts, but nobody has stopped them yet when they have to. Period. They're the best team in the country. Period.

Haven't read all this stuff and maybe you're talking in jest. ALL of the North Dakota fans I met and talked to were very classy and genuine. They are passionate, but who isn't when it comes to college hockey. It was great talking with them. Congrats on a great season!

We'll find out on Sat, won't we?

Jockstock is an arse. And he's allegedly in my fanbase. Although, I cannot stand most UND fans. They are jack bags.
