The definitive tournament speculation thread

Re: The definitive tournament speculation thread

The NCAA got it right :D

Only getting one point though did start to put some kinks in Elmira's armor last weekend.

Plattsburgh now beats Elmira in the comparison and they've lost a few points to some other contenders elsewhere.

A semifinal loss or loss to Utica in the finals puts the Pool B bid in jeopardy.

Re: The definitive tournament speculation thread

The NCAA should just hire NUProf to do his computer rankings for all DIII sports, and use those to determine who makes the playoffs!

That would take Adrian from any discussion ........ and eliminate the resulting issues travel, etc....that the darn program brings to the table.:D:p

When Webb publishes my Western rankings, you will be pleased - your series vs. MSOE made my rankings look a lot like the NCAA's

Which will happen as soon as I am able to get connected to the host server. Haven't been able to since Thursday, but was out of town so now that I'm back home I'm hoping it fires this evening.

Re: The definitive tournament speculation thread

Patience grasshopper.

They're being sent to the Satellite of Love in Vadnais Heights for vetting.

Re: The definitive tournament speculation thread

Gentlemen

There is a problem - and a big one...

Compare the NCAA table found here: http://web1.ncaa.org/champsel_new/exec/pdf/staticpdfrank
With the USCHO table found here: http://www.uscho.com/rankings/pwc/d-iii-men-east/

Notice that the SoS's are different. What I wonder is who is right? Absent anything to the contrary, do we go with the NCAA since they are the selecting organization?????

Update, but not for all. Salem State's being obvious (to me!) plus a few others. Anyone have any idea why??

The VH Satellite of Love appears to have been taken out by Soviet countermeasures, but our team has been working real hard on that.

They're not identical, but they are pretty close. COmparing a few that I looked at:

USCHO/NCAA

Elmira: .5782/.578
Utica: .5727/.572
Hobart: .5671/.567
Manhattanville: .5452/.543
Neumann: .5424/.542
Oswego: .5371/.537

The differences are pretty small. Even with Salem St, it's a difference of .011. Of course, that .011 could make a difference.

Re: The definitive tournament speculation thread

Hmm

OK go here: http://www.ncaa.com/rankings/icehockey-men/d3/regional_rankings and then click on the link at the bottom of the page...

EDIT: It seems to affect the MASCAC schools plus a few others. I'm smelling conspiracy (or is it the smoke from the room?).

Maybe it's just that I've never played really close attention before, but I found it amazing that out 47 teams listed, only 7 have winning records against ranked teams (in-region).

Elmira 9-5-2
Oswego 8-1
Neumann 7-6-2
Plattsburgh 6-3-1
Castleton 4-2
Bowdoin 3-2
Salem St 2-1

Doesn't it just appear that all the numbers are rounded?

Re: The definitive tournament speculation thread

Besides Salem
NCAA then USCHO

Plymouth St. .480/.488
Mass-Dartmouth .483 / .488
Fitchburg St. .495 / .490

Curry .457 / .464

These differences are not insignificant. I wonder if somebody did not report a score or two and that's what's throwing things off.
FOUND IT!! Fitchburg St. -- per NCAA 11-7-1; per USCHO 12-8-1

So USCHO is the more "correct" figure.

It's all RIT's fault....

Re: The definitive tournament speculation thread

Utica is now seventh...are they done ? What does that do to Pool "C" ?? Still #3 KRACH.

Rennel says POOL "C" #1 Utica #2 Platty #3 Castleton Did it change ??

Platty 2-1 over UC in PWR Utica and Casleton tied at 1-1 ??
