The definitive tournament speculation thread

Re: The definitive tournament speculation thread

Well, then we root for SNC to take a nap in the NCHA finals, assuring 2 NCHA teams, and a 7-4 split. Two quarterfinals in the west. Problem solved. :D

SNC vs. Adrian is still on the menu.

SNC vs. Adrian is still on the menu.

That doesn't mean we have to order that item. :D

SNC gets a re-match at their place, assuming that the 2nd NCHA team is the #4 seed. Hamline gets on a bird and heads to Michigan.

They won't fly anybody if there is a way of pairing teams so that it doesn't happen. Hamline and Adrian will not meet except in the quarters of an 8-3 scenario. Quarterfinal flight are frowned upon.

Re: The definitive tournament speculation thread

I know, I know.

Hey, I'm trying to cram 4 teams into the western bracket and/or not have a higher seed get soaked here.

Re: The definitive tournament speculation thread

If by some chance Point were to win the NCHA autobid we could have Point vs Adrian and SNC vs Hamline in the west. That's the only alternative I see to Adrian returning to DePere for a first round game.

**BOTH ADRIAN AND HAMLINE HAVE TO FIRST WIN THEIR RESPECTIVE CONFERENCE TOURNAMENTS**

SNC is the only lock at this point.

Re: The definitive tournament speculation thread

Of course. But at this point in the evening, at the close of regular season play, it's fun to wake up the Prof and play what-if games. ;)

Re: The definitive tournament speculation thread

All I'm saying is, I know the coaches claim they don't look at this forum, but if I'm the coach of MSOE or Marian I'm showing my players this thread...

Gustavus and St. Thomas too for that matter.

I live for this,, but josh is much better at it. The UWSP scenario is still in play, I see

There are literally hundreds of possible permutations for the tournament still. Unfortunately, many of us do need to work, and eat, and sleep, etc. So the only way to make sense of things and make any meaningful projections is to make some assumptions to streamline the process. One of those assumptions is "league leaders get Pool A."

Of course this rarely happens (as I point out in the second post in this thread). As information changes, we adjust our assumptions. Nobody is saying any of those teams can't win their tournaments. But we would go crazy with speculation otherwise.

Re: The definitive tournament speculation thread

Well, that's gonna happen anyway. But we've got to argue about something in the meantime.

Re: The definitive tournament speculation thread

I am sure that someone has covered this already, and I missed it. I can't remember from last year - when are we likely to see committee rankings for the first time?

Re: The definitive tournament speculation thread

PREZ:
Congratulations on your three horses winning their respective league titles. Depending on how the next two weeks shake out you will have to wait and see how the smoke filled room ranks the field. Any chance all three could make the final four? Nice article you wrote on Interlock final weekend.

Re: The definitive tournament speculation thread

Here is this week's projection for the NCAA Rankings and the field. These are either going to be 100% wrong or right on the money. After what the western rankings looked like last week who knows what to expect.

EAST
1- Oswego
2- Elmira
3- Utica
4- Plattsburgh
5- Norwich
6- Castleton
7- Neumann
8- Salem State
9- Geneseo
10- Manhattanville
11- Hobart
12- Bowdoin
13- Hamilton
14- Plymouth State
15- UMass Dartmouth

WEST
1- St. Norbert
2- Adrian
3- Hamline
4- Wis. Stout
5- Wis. Eau Claire
6- St. Thomas
7- Wis. Superior

Yes Stout and UWEC both lost this weekend, ending their NCHA playoff run, but the numbers were just not there to drop them. UWS is closing the gap on them but they are still behind in the criteria.

Now, let's break down the Pool A bids

ECAC East: Norwich
ECAC NE: Curry
MCHA: Adrian
MIAC: Hamline
NCHA: St. Norbert
NESCAC: Hamilton
SUNYAC: Oswego

Now the Pool B:
Elmira

Pool C teams under consideration
EAST: Utica, Plattsburgh, Castleton
WEST: Wis. Stout, UWEC, St. Thomas

After comparing these teams, it's a clean sweep for the East this week. Yes, that's right the Spartans are not dead after all. The win against Middlebury was huge for them.

EAST
1- Oswego
2- Elmira
3- Utica
4- Plattsburgh
5- Norwich
6- Castleton
7- Hamilton
8- Curry

WEST
1- St. Norbert
2- Adrian
3- Hamline

An 8/3 split, certainly doesn't bode well for getting 2 west teams to the FF does it? Well they could certainly still get that shot.

The bracket....

NCAA Play-ins
Curry @ Utica
Hamilton @ Plattsburgh
Castleton @ Norwich

NCAA Quarterfinals
Castleton/Norwich winner @ Oswego
Hamilton/Plattsburgh winner @ Curry/Utica winner
Hamline @ St. Norbert
Adrian @ Elmira

This scenario gives byes to E1, E2, W1, W2, and W3. It also gives byes to the top 3 teams in the field. There is no other scenario which would be able to do that with an 8/3 split.
