The definitive tournament speculation thread

Re: The definitive tournament speculation thread

NCAA Play-ins
Curry @ Plattsburgh
Williams @ Norwich
Castleton @ Neumann

NCAA Quarterfinals
Hamline @ St. Norbert
Adrian @ Elmira
Castleton/Neumann winner @ Oswego
Williams/Norwich winner @ Curry/Plattsburgh winner

What determines who plays who in the Quarters in the East? Is it not at all dependent on the higher remaining seed? It would seem odd to have (for example) Norwich playing @ Curry, should those two teams win.

Think he's thinking a Platty win

Re: The definitive tournament speculation thread

Just trying to figure it out. Playing across the lake with Carroll in goal does not worry me (much). :D

Considering that the first two times we tried Dubois was in goal, we might get a different result.

Back to the DTST - How do they match teams/sites for the quarterfinals? Is the host team pre-determined, or is it "highest remaining seed" gets home ice?

Teams in contention bid on hosting. Usually if the there is no problem with the proposed site, the higher seed will host. There was a famous instance several years ago when Middlebury hosted when the were not the higher seed, because UMD bid for a first round game and not for a quarter final. The NCAA picks the site.

Re: The definitive tournament speculation thread

Play the Concordia / Adrian game in Mauston, WI: Mauston is only 430 miles from Concordia and 439 miles from Adrian!
Not a bad idea. Ice where the Lemonweir River is ****ed is still in pretty good shape.

Re: The definitive tournament speculation thread

Based on the latest rankings it looks like Matt was nearly spot on in his latest projection just needing to switch Neumann and Castleton for:

EAST
1- Oswego
2- Elmira
3- Plattsburgh
4- Norwich
5- Castleton
6- Neumann
7- Williams
8- Curry

WEST
1- St. Norbert
2- Adrian
3- Hamline

NCAA 1st Round
Curry @ Plattsburgh
Williams @ Norwich
Neumann @ Castleton

NCAA Quarterfinals
Hamline @ St. Norbert
Adrian @ Elmira
Castleton/Neumann winner @ Oswego
Williams/Norwich winner @ Curry/Plattsburgh winner

**I have some questions for all of these bracketologists regarding the west:
What happens if Adrian loses?
Do they have a good enough profile for a Pool C?
Who do they beat out?
If all favorites win, then Castleton and Neumann would each have another RNK loss. Which one would be gone?
If SNC also lost could there be a 6-5 split?

This is of course assuming that everyone favored wins this weekend. If Fredonia beats Plattsburgh, I'm not sure Plattsburgh gets a Pool C. If Adrian loses and SNC wins, it's entirely possible that Adrian gets a Pool C and you get the 7-4 split. If BOTH Adrian and SNC lose, SNC gets the Pool C and Adrian agoes home.

That's an interesting scenario I don't think I've seen mentioned. If SNC loses...that leaves one lonely little Pool C bid, with Oswego getting the other one.

Who gets in? I would guess the Norwich/Castleton loser?

Sorry to go a little homer on you, but why wouldn't Plattsburgh take a Pool C slot with a loss at this point? SNC goes ahead of them, but anyone else vying for the final berth would have the same additional loss as Plattsburgh, and Plattsburgh is the only contender that definitely won't sustain a RNK loss in the process. As such, they should still compare favorably with Norwich and Castleton. And I hope whatever reasoning drove the "3 teams from the SUNYAC" skepticism has been dispelled at this point. The one scenario I can see where Plattsburgh is done is as follows:

- Plattsburgh loses
- SNC loses
- Elmira loses
- Neumann is awarded Pool B over Elmira (and I think this is a pretty big stretch)

Not that I wouldn't rather the Cardinals just win their way in on Saturday, but I think they're in pretty solid position for Pool C if disaster strikes.

Which is why I said "I'm not sure Plattsburgh gets the Pool C". They could definitely get it. Losing to Freddy won't help their cause. And if SNC loses, you have Norwich/Castleton, Plattsburgh and possibly Neumann/Elmira battling for the last Pool C. It'll be interesting, for sure.

Re: The definitive tournament speculation thread

My question is, does Hamline get in even if they lose on Saturday? Is there resume strong enough for pool c consideration

Oh, I'm not saying it's a certainty by any means, particularly given the Smoke-Filled Room. I'm just saying that, of the four teams you listed alongside Plattsburgh in this post, Plattsburgh appears to clearly beat out three, and the fourth happens to be a team that doesn't necessarily need Pool C if they lose. Logically (and again, I concede that the NCAA might not completely act on logic, though they've been pretty predictable for the past couple of years), the situation I mentioned above should be the only way Plattsburgh doesn't secure a Pool C if they lose, and I consider that scenario pretty unlikely. I just wanted to underscore the observation that Plattsburgh is significantly more likely to get an at-large berth with a loss than to miss out. Sorry if it came off otherwise :)

Re: The definitive tournament speculation thread

I'm sure this has been discussed already, but what are the chances Oswego hosts a game in the NCAA Tournament?
