The definitive tournament speculation thread

Re: The definitive tournament speculation thread

So you think it is more likely they reward the lowest ranked teams and make the majority of the higher ranked teams play in a play-in? Something like this?

NCAA Field
1- Oswego (bye)
2- Norwich
3- St. Norbert (bye)
4- Middlebury
5- Plattsburgh
6- Bowdoin
7- Gustavus Adolphus (bye)
8- Manhattanville
9- Adrian (bye)
10- St. Thomas (bye)
11- Curry

Play-ins
Curry @ Norwich
Manhattanville @ Middlebury
Bowdoin @ Plattsburgh

NCAA Quarterfinals
Adrian @ St. Norbert
St. Thomas @ Gustavus Adolphus
Bowdoin/Plattsburgh winner @ Oswego
Manhattanville/Middlebury winner @ Curry/Norwich

That seems a lot more ridiculous than my previous projection, doesn't it?

In a perfect world where there is no Geographic Proximity rule for tournament matchups, the top 5 teams in an 11 team field get byes. The first projection takes that away from one of the top 5. The second projection takes that away from 3 of the top 5.

Exactly.

Re: The definitive tournament speculation thread

7 - 4 split (geographically speaking)

Since D-III is a regional tournament until the last 4, keep the 4 "Western" teams west, and the 7 Eastern teams, east. With 7 in the East, somebody gets a bye to Saturday and 6 others play on Wednesday with 3 advancing to play on Saturday.

What's so unfair about it?

Now if you send Adrian east, two things happen --
(a) Nobody in the East gets a bye which means the #1 team in the nation gets no advantage.
(b) Only one Cheese region team goes to Lake Placid (given the way the season has played out, is this OK??????).

Unless you have the bottom 4 East play and the bottom 2 West - still cut out 3 teams and the top from each side get the bye...the rest time, whatever...

There is a 500 mile rule - any trip of more than 500 miles requires that the teams fly, and the NCAA instructs the committee to minimize flights.

Actually Matt R's first projection allows the NCAA to get away with one or two flights - it depends on whether or not Adrian wins. If Adrian wins they fly for a quarterfinal and the winner of that game flies to Lake Placid. If Adrian loses, the only flight needed is to send one Western team to Lake Placid.

Matt's second projection requires two flights because there will be two West teams at Lake Placid.

3 cheese...all byes...SNC, ST.T, Adrian. East team plays @Adrian w/ bye to Quarters as well. work?

Re: The definitive tournament speculation thread

There's still an Armageddon bracket that is in play...and it's one no one has mentioned all season.

As of now, as far as I can tell...it's still in play. I refuse to believe it's going to happen, but I do believe it's on the table.

is this bracket readily available for our eyes' consumption?

The NCAA seeds the tournament correctly, to hell with geographic proximity?
