The Dead Thread: Yep. Still Dead.

Re: The Dead Thread: Yep. Still Dead.

Both names are valid. I believe NBC called it the Saga.

And Glen Frey was only 7 years older than me. Gets one thinking about how much longer I'll be posting messages.

I figure you and i will keep posting until we either run out of sarcasm and puns or until one of our teams wins it all. i strongly suspect the former. BTW I am older than Frey and probably older than many of the last few who have cashed in at the big casino.

There's gonna be a Heartache Tonight.

As the History of the Eagles documentary on Showtime accurately depicted....he was a complete @-hole, but what a talent. Apparently the chronic conditions that led to his death were a result of the years of drugs and booze.
But from the sound of that, it was going to happen One of These Nights?

To be fair, half the band were complete, egotistical ***holes. Thus, the split, reformation, and subsequent re-firing of Felder.

Doc - technically, our schools HAVE won it all during our lifetimes. Only our men and your women have fallen short.

Wow. Just ... wow. Kep, man, such vitriol. The guy's dead. And then to wish it upon Henley.

Mentioning Henley, you're just ****ed that Don wrote about his encounter with you but didn't give you full attribution, just a shrouded "in a cloud of smoke" reference. ;)

Or it could be dark humor. But nah...

Though don't get me wrong, the Eagles' soft rock pablum does suck. But I stopped wishing for celeb deaths when Billy Joel continued to stay with us despite a fortune in votive candles.

Speaking of bad taste, there's a great Slate (I think) article on the death of Lemmy where the writer wails that we live in a world where Lemmy is dead but the Eagles still live. Bad timing, man... :p

Re: The Dead Thread: Yep. Still Dead.

Be nice. Frey's solo career was pretty bad, but the Eagles themselves were one of the better popular bands of the 70s. Not to mention, by far the most politically liberal mainstream country out there, short of Neil Young. :p

Well, to a point: They took on a different weltanschauung in the 2000s as evidenced by their unforgiving review of society today.

" ... you don't want to work, you want to live like a king, but the big bad world don't owe you a thing."

I'd call that a fairly conservative take.

Perhaps. But Henley, at least, expressed a pretty strong disdain for Reagan. Haters: Take it easy. No other group could harmonize like the Eagles of the 70's. The Greatest Hits was the first cassette I owned, fond memories.

Not quite fair to classify N Young as country, though he's certainly used Nashville. He's all over the place.

But I suppose that is what the smiley was about.
